im new to heatmats and heat rocks for heat mats do you put them in the cage underneath the substrate or on the botom and for heat rocks do you just put them straight in the cage.
are they dangerous can they burst into flames and things like that

Heat mats should be position under the tank, be careful to read the instructions though as some cannot be placed under weight so instead u put legs on the tank and stick to the underside
Heat rocks are fine inside

I run some heat mats in the enclosure on the floor with a piece of slate sitting on top of it as a heat sink. In other enclosures I run them sitting on a fabricated sheetmetal "table" elevated about 50-75mm again with slate on top. This allows the snake to sit on or under the heat source.
