Went out herping with my husband Reptilerob and the kids yesterday and we found this lace monitor. It was very much on the cranky side. Hissing and puffing it's neck up.

G'day Rett,

It's actually a Sand Monitor, Varanus gouldii. Lacies won't have that stripe through the eye.

Rett,

Very nice. It looks like it allowed you to get quite close.

Regards,
David

Nice find!!

Wish I could find stuff like that in my backyard... (only place my mother lets me go herping :p)

Thankyou for the comments Jonno, Moloch05 and Rainbow-Serpent. Jonno thanks for the correction. Moloch05 yeah it did let us get pretty close to get a couple of quick snaps but was very angry.

nice shots, I love shots of monitors with there tongues out, not many people capture it perfectly like you did, well done. Also good to see some close ups. they seem to be pretty shy when I have seen them, darting down holes and into large logs.
