I want to make a 6x4x2 foot cage for my bredli but not sure how much glass would set me back? and if there are any cheap alternatives?
better than ending up with a box i can't put glass inThat does not sound like a bright idea...
Work out final cost...then begin building...
Idea>design plans>work out costing> all before you start any work...basics of D&T so some german guy taught me...

5mm should be the thinnest you go for any sizeable piece of glass
Be cautious buying 'old glass" from it's often too thin to be safe. The slightest knock and it will crack. 5mm should be the thinnest you go for any sizeable piece of glass
What would you call a sizeable piece of glass Jax? Cheers
Anything over 30cm x 30cm
Anything at ground level or used to house anything bigger than a 1.2metre (4ft)snake I use laminate or safety glass.
You can't cut safety glass once its been made, you can cut laminate but wouldn't recommend DIY, its 2 thin panes of glass stuck together. I'm good, but not good enough to get both sheets perfect LOL
I use secondhand laminated shopfront glass. It comes from left overs when shop fronts are broken as they just throw it out. I had a deal when i was building my cages where they charged me $5 a piece. I just gave them the measurements and in a couple of months I had 300 odd peices at a tenth of new price and saved all that waste going to landfill. Laminated shopfront glass is 6.88mm thick so very strong, plus laminated.
