my lacey 6mths old started sneezing coughing bout 3weeks ago i wasn't too woried about him because he was only doing it once twice a day but now ive noticed it has got worse in the last few days and has been opening his mouth and coughing/sneezing pretty bad and doing it alot more frequent maybe like 5-8 times in a row and like 10times a day.. other wise it is very lively still eating well and looking healthy...
now is that what you call respiritory in monitors or is it different again??
ive got numerous medicines ive accumilated over the years that are used for respiritory wondering if you have used any of these or heard of any one useing these...

spelling mite not be correct..
BAYTRAL.......TRIPPLE C.......SULFAR AVS.......DOXY-T

please reply seriously thanks brad..

cuttingloose88, firstly what are the temperatures within it's enclosure? Lace monitors seem to be a very hardy reptile, tolerant of various temperatures, however they do still need high temperatures under their basking lights. I think that temperatures would need to be way off for a lacie to get a R.I.

I have found that a substrate that gets dusty may cause a lacie to sneeze in an attempt to clear the nostrils of dust, however the coughing is quite a concern. I would check the temps again. Bump them up a few degrees and have heat running day and night. Also, get it to a vet who has experience with reptiles.

yea mate i have two heating lights runnig close to 12hrs a day 1 is a 100wat flood light and the other is a 100wat uva/uvb heating lights i also have i uvb fluro light runing temp is at least 45-50 in basking area and rest of tank gets pretty dam warm....
i do have sand substrate but its fairly clean and same with rest of enclosure.. im just wondering if this might have any thing to do with my other lacey living with it, he was a bit sick a couple of weeks ago.. he's 6mths old too.. any sugestions??brad

Maybe stress is a factor??? Maybe one is more dominant?

Whats your humidity like? Young lacies need a certain amount of humidity, as well as a slightly damp substrate to dig down into. I think a young lacie would dehydrate quickly in a warm, dry enclosure.

how would you find out humidity of the enclosure?? thinking about it now the little guy did come from adelaide and now is in rockhampton qld its really dry heat up here and probly wouldnt be much humid... but would that bring on this coughing/sneezing, ive also noticed he has a greyish looking tounge but his mouth is still pinkish does that mean anything??? the pair of them seem to get along real well sleep next to each other bask together n dont even fight over food so that should rule that out shouldn't it mate.. would it be easier to just change substrate to bark pieces and just get a little spray bottle and spray the bark now and then???

i would be wasting no time wiht back and forth answers and take it to the vet

thats the problem buddy can't get a hold of any reptile vets/specialists in rocky ive tried hence why im seeking help off you guys

Change to a moist substreight as stated in your other thread.

Its good for hatchlings to have access to a hot basking spot 24/7.
Id change the basking light to a 100 watt infered globe and leave it on 24/7 set to a thermostate.
If you put a branch or shelf under the light and have the thermostate in the centre of the back wall of the enclosure set to 30 degrees.
You will get a basking spot under the light at around 45 to 50 degrees.

Ive seen my Lacie basking at 4 am, so its good to give them 24 hour access to a hot spot when they are young..

Also if you dont have any hides, add some.
They like to feel safe and secure, the coffing could be stress, so add a hollow log or 2.

So a 24/7 hot spot, a few hides and moist substreight is a start.

I added a pic of my frilled neck enclosure, (cant find Lacie set up pics) just to give you an idea of branches set up under heat lights for basking.
Plus a happy Lacie pic.

Cheers Andy.

A few more pics for ideas.
The hides are sitting in tubs of moist cocco=pete.
As you can see with the temps on the slate, there is a nice hot basking spot.

yea thats pretty much my setup at the moment execpt for the substrate but yea i will try a infrared through the night for a bit to see how they go... is it possible to load a small video clip of it coughing on these post things?? ill get some pics of tank setup tomorow for you's.. my main concern is if its respiritory because other wise im pretty sure enclosure is ok..
