35-40 seems very low for a small monitor.. my ackies have a 70 degree basking spot and both are always under it roasting away.

Yes but if you read my original post and looked at the image I posted you'd see that I added another spotlight in addition to the one that's already there providing a 70'C+ basking spot. He goes between them. Atm he's enjoying a 30-35'C area.
