Theres a small shop in my area (central coast) that specializes in all things slimy ;)
This type of shop where the staff are heavily involved with reptiles personally should be allowed to have live stock. Deffinatly look into shops before giving them permission to sell but honestly i doubt a pet shop would take this on without being upto the task.

If the shop you speak of ever got permission to sell live reptiles I would lose what little faith I have left in DECC/NPWS

Everyone seems to be arguing that all these "problems" will become prominent once NSW legalises "reptile shops". And yet reptiles are already being sold in other states of Australia...not to mention other countries.

I mean honestly, if you live in NSW & these "reptile shops" come into existence, are you going to boycott them in favour for purchasing them from other states?

Is that the same Simon Stone who pulled that scam on the NT government.

Stuff the NT government,if they had there way they there wouldnt be albino carpets in collections ,got no sympathy for them at all.
As for the jags well someone had to get them out there, no different to foreign GTPs being bred ,if someone knows where a crime has been committed ring the cops or cry to someone that cares.

If they had their way? They passed the legislation to loan the thing to Simon in the first place.

The NT Government seem to have the best attidute to utlising wildlife as pets. From there, legally came Albino Carpets and Albino Olives and in all likelihood Oenpellis. Other governments force keepers to bring snakes into captivity "under the table" rather than accepting that commercialising wild animals is the way to public awareness and longterm protection of wildlife. By allowing people to value an animal you ensure its long term survival! It a pity other state governments dont follow NT.

i dont agree with petshops selling animals! besides aquariums selling fish! so i am not in support of reptiles being sold in petshops/ reptiles shops or what ever u wanna call them!

Have a winge ,make you feel better :)

My personal opinion is with Simon. He did what he was asked to do within the legislation. Its what he didn't do that they forgot to cover.

Works with crocodiles ,with many reptiles you must take some initially then stop which boosts the captive bred market and helps the welfare of animals in captivity as the price is supported.
What actually happens is a government reliance on revenue so they keep taking the even commonly held and captive bred species to maintain activity.

The NT catch a pest reptile scheme, well you could hardly call it catch and release, thats just an easy source of cheap wildlife to throw at the market.

Put the "Turtleman " in control up there he would do a better job.

As soon as gubberment gets involved, it will cost us law abiding licence holders more...... we have to make up for the shortfall in the revenue that the gubberment will forcast people illegally keeping reptiles (criminals) arent paying.

sleeping dogs ;)

Why buy from a pet shop, when there are more than capable breeders on this site? Also, you'd probably get a better deal here than in a shop.

Chris

Talking to a high ranking person in the PIAA last week at the big Expo we got to talking reptile and the very timely release of my books as its only a very short wait and it will be good to go in NSW with reptile pet shops.

Cost me nothing to make a baby human. Will I look after it? You bet I will. Money has nothing to do with caring for a living creature. It's to do with your own personal ethics, beliefs and value for/of life.
Pet stores can sell reptiles here in wa. They are over priced ($2000 for a plain looking woma). NSW has it pretty good. I'm sure there are bigger problems in the world.

You will get a better deal off a private breeder but DECCW may change the system and require a breeders license and a raft of other things have to wait and see.

They will NEVER stop privates from breeding, whether licensed or not, they may try and get people mass producing to pay more for it but there will be thousands of snakes bred each year by small time keepers no matter what they do with the licence system, these will either be allowed in the system or just be sold off licence widening the already gaping hole they call the black market, which is actually bigger than the legal one.

Maybe they will discourage private breeding and make you sell through a dealer like they do in wa. No keeper to keeper transfers here :( gotta pay a licensed dealer $50 to give someone a free snake.
