I would like to take this opportunity to ask people to seriously consider supporting the. Australian Freshwater Turtle Conservation & Research Association (AFTCRA)
Email: [email protected] [email protected]

This group needs urgent support and it is a fantastic cause .
Following is part of an email to us from Craig Latta which explain things in more detail.

We are also in the process of starting a much needed association called AFTCRA (Australian Freshwater Turtle Conservation & Research Association) which we would appreciate if you could help to advertise it for us on your site and in WA. We are a non-profit organisation dedicated solely to helping threatened and endangered Australian Freshwater turtles. We really need as many members as we can get to help accomplish our goals, and costs as little as $40 per year for membership. If only 20% of all Australians that keep and breed turtles (and make money from them) joined, then we would be a powerful organisation.

So far memberships have been a little disappointing considering that countries like Vietnam, France and Africa, that generally appear to have little interest in their reptiles have massive turtle conservation centres and thousands of members! We really cannot understand the lack of enthusiasm considering that membership money is going to have a direct impact on turtle conservation. Our long term goals are to have AFTCRA conservation and research centres in every state except Tasmania of course (Tassie doesn't have any endemic turtles

Regards Graig Latta

So come on people give it some thought please.
Cheers Dave Mackintosh
