Polystyrene Box Incubator Question

Breeders out there could i plz have your opinion...Im going to do the water with a fish tank heater in but and have tubs raised with vermiculite in...now i been told to use clip tight lids and only clip one side so the condensation runs away to side and not on eggs and to put couple small holes in lid...do i also make small holes in box...im getting confused with all the different info around...also temps some say 28/30 deg others say 31 as close as u can...and how do u know if the substrate is drying out?...many thanks Pete

Weight your tubs when you put them in.
Check the weight weekly.
