Our power went our for quite a while today and it got me thinking. As far as heating and lighting etc goes, what do you all do when the power goes out for extended periods of time? Any tips people care to share??

Not much one really can do.
A few hours certainly would not harm your snakes.
Cold snaps happen in the wild too, if that?s what you are worrying about.
Cheers
:)

you could always put a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel in the tank

I've got a generator for my incubator, runs off a car battery.

Yup a couple of car batteries and an inverter for incubators is the go. When I had many more fish I used a UPS for air pump but don't use anything for the snakes heating, it's just like Artie said :) JMO

Amy,
As the others have said a few hours is no worry.
Lighting isn't a concern really ,just if your heating goes off and you haven't got a generator or UPS, then I would use the hot water bottle idea or those little hand warmer heat packs, they last about 8 hours, and may just take the edge of the chill particularly if it is in winter.
Not sure how low the temps get in WA !
