Males have just as much mitochondria as females and if you're not breeding, the maternal inheritance isn't relevant, so continue to ponder!

Oh, I thought we were talking breeding
I like boy snakes :D

There's diferent reasons.
Some people live a long way from the airport, so a trip for one snake is not viable.
Some people want to be able to buy offspring of that pair at a later date.
Some people are selling them at a discount price, but making enough money by selling the two for it to be worth it.
Some people don't want to be stuck with excess males.
Some people want the convenience of getting rid of both snakes in one transaction.
Some people just want to annoy people who only want one snake.
You'd really have to ask that particular seller why, and if there is any way around it (people will often sell you a single female BHP hatchy if you pay an extra few hungry as they can then sell the male at a discount rate if he doesn't sell at full price).

It also allows you to stick the buyer in a tough spot, if they want one of your animals, they have to buy two. It's win/win (for the breeder of course
