G'day guys, over the w/end I was given a wooden enclosure
(3 ft x2x2) as a bigger enclosure to house my beardie.

Besides the full spectrum light tube & basking/heat bulb...do I need a heat mat too?

I was told to use the heat mat at night to warm up the ground (1/3 floor space) so the beardie can digest whilst sleeping & THEN rely on the basking light during the day.

As I've only ever used a basking light (& full spect too) in its smaller enclosure...should I be introducing a heat mat (2nd source of heat) in the bigger size enclosure I'm building???

If yes, to addition of the heat mat a)What would the ground temp be set at? b)Only at night OR 24/7 in conjunction with basking light?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

i say no - why - well lizards rarely absorb from rocks through their chest, Most lizards or all lizards abord heat from above while they will sit on a rock for there lower body they need heat from above, they love it, heat rocks can brn snakes and lizards so i would scrap any idea about rocks and go for a heat lamp you could place a rock in the tank which aborbs heat from the heat lamp for when the lights are turned off like i do,

Cheers.
Yeah my gut feeling says no to an additional heat mat. My beardie seems pretty healthy relying on just a basking light for the past 18 months I've had him.
