EWD & Saw shell sharing a tank - Opinions and ideas

So, I am new to this site. I'm no herp expert and would say I'm novice but do my best with research and running around. I'm almost 21 and I currently own a 18 month old saw shelled turtled called Chops as seen in my 'introductions' thread. This isn't my first time owning reptiles/turtles but I do need help.

I am unsure if THIS is the right section to post such a question but if it's not moderators please feel free to remove it or I can repost in the right section.

My BIG question is - I have Chops in a 6x2x2 tank with a provision for a sump setup that I will be buying ASAP. He lives with a large Salmon Tail Catfish, a large Pleco and 4 Jack Dempseys. I have a heater, internal filter, UVA/UVB bulb and a heat lamp over his natural rock basking area that he uses rarely but is happy and healthy. He doesn't like the light so I will be investing in a moonlight that puts off heat but no/minimal light so he will bask.

Anywho, once I have finished moving and he is settled down again I want to get a EWD ( second one I will have owned ). I am planning on putting them in the same tank but will reduce the water level to half to make more room above for platforms, branches, bowls etc for the EWD but not to be invasive on Chops space. I also have gravel as substrate at the moment but once I pull it down to move and revamp it I want to put a low - impact sand in there as Chops loves to dig and thought this might be good for him - Thoughts or opinions on sand would be nice a I have never tried nor had experience with it in aquarium. Also how can I control the humidity in the tank?

I know they will poo in the water and that Chops might bite the tip of it's tail and so on but I am hoping to be prepared for this with some help from you guys. I want to know your opinion on this as it will be something extremely similar to Martifish's set up in this thread ( http://www.aussiepythons.com/forum/australian-lizards-5383/show-us-ewd-s-204755/page/5 ) half way down.

Any suggestions on improvements I could make to a setup suitable to this application, feeding ideas and any other possible problems and ways around them. They will eventually end up outdoors given time. Open to C&C!
