Tile Background

I have made enclosures out of expanding foam for a rock design, but I want to make a tile background for another enclosure, i have looked everywhere and cant find out to make one. I dont know if I just start with the soldering iron and just burn the bits i dont want out or what... Any ideas?

i made a brickwall background i just cut the bricks out of foam and stuck them on then use soldering iron to roughen up the edges and face of the brick is that what you were asking about
