i think it is a dwarf crowed snake (Cacophis krefftii) but still hard to tell how big was it
 
Heres a few pics of both Krefts and Goldern Crowns. Krefts are very common at Coffs. I cannot make out any details of the origional pic posted so can not confirm the identity.

Golden Crowned...we get heaps in Dorrigo
Did it have an orange belly with black spots down middle?

I think the snake had a pink belly, but I'm not sure.

Golden crowned snakes markings on there heads do not meet across the nape as clearly the pictures show.
