It's a Furina diadema. They're nocturnal, as indicated by the relatively small eyes.
Though venomous, they're regarded as harmless and inoffensive.
Is that a sloughed skin next to it?

Their house looks a bit like Hagrid's Hut,its made of bush stone and very cool in summer.It has a shingle roof and the window sills are made of cane train sleepers,I think it is iron bark.There is gaps to the outside everywhere and the place is full of green tree frogs,micro bats and various spiders but has no rodent problems
The odd taipan is seen around the acreage but never inside.
Both kids,7 and 8 years old now, have no fear of snakes,can identify the most common ones and are passionate relocators.
