Whats with the big red "X"?

For a while I have noticed a big red "X" on the top right hand side of every APS page.
I've always been curious about it. Hovering the mouse over it tells me nothing.

Today I thought, what the hell, and just clicked it and it disappeared, lol
Anyone know what its for? And where it has gone?

It is the 'dismiss' button. Do you still have the advert for the APS 2010 calendar?
