Herp Cams

Hi ive put in my order for a camera for xmas.
Ive chosen the Olympus SP-500 Ultra Zoom

Do you think this will be any good for herps?
Also any hints and tips on shooting will be much appreciated.

I noticed from your review page they say it hasnt got image stabilization ?
If you are buying it for zoom shots IS makes a lot of difference .
Also for macro i would try it out first as my wifes camera (panasonic fz76 mp12x zoom ) isnt anywhere near as good as my compact (konica minolta 12x zoom )camera
I just bought a canon eos 400d which is a great camera but i really miss the image stabilization that i got used to on my other camera have to use a tripod alot more for long low light zoom shots
