hello all,
my hubby has his mind set on getting a pair of BHP's (a friend of ours is breeding them sometime soon and giving away the first lot) and I really want to know what they are like to handle and well everything...
And this may be a weird question but can snakes breed brother and sister?? or what happens?? can it cause problems later??

LOL It must be a guy thing because my hubby thinks they are awesome as well!

I'd be interested to get a few opinions on this too!

I can only speak of the juvies i have, they are all bark and no bite.
They 's' up, and go to strike but only head butt.

They are awesome, id reccomend them :)

As babies they can be a bit feisty. They will strike and headbutt, and let out loud hisses, but this depends on how you have disturbed them. Once they are in your hands they are very docile.

As adults they are very docile and great to handle, but again if you disturb them by just grabbing them while they're coiled asleep they tend to react more dramatically than other python species.

Overall, though, they are one of the more pet-like of pythons available and quite a trustworthy snake around kids once they've settled in. I've also found my 4 BHP's to remain calm during feeding mode, which is something i cant say of other pythons i have.

Mine too, they wont even strike at the prey. I have to chuck it in, and when i come back 15 min later its gone.

yes you can breed bro/sis, but it is always good to get some new blood in after a few years.
JMO.
cheers:)

They are great snakes I highly recommend them!

You know a breeder who is giving a clutch away?? Lucky you!

Oh thats alright then... We want to get 2 off of them so I've told my hubby that they can give us 1 and we will pay for the other since BHP's are soo expensive to buy... Our friends have already told ua that they're giving us one... so Yeah, I spose...

Yeah they wanna give the first lot away to people who normally wouldn't be allowed to have BHP (like my hubby) and they just wanna make sure they're ok...

I find mine are very docile - unless they are hungry. I feed mine once a week and when I put the rat in their enclosure they launch themselves at it. Once they know you're not going to feed them, they are an absolute pleasure. Do be careful about putting your hand in to pick one up without letting it know it's not feeding time, otherwise you'll be posting pictures with blood in them :)

Mine are easy to handle and have never bitten. They are around the 7-8ft mark now and are as docile as you can get

I would highly recommend them to anyone! We have a pair, and they are gorgeous. Our female is a little cage protective ( all bluff ) but as soon as she's out... what an angel!! And our gorgeous male... my husband likes to call him our piece of rope.. because that's exactly what he is like. Our 4yr old son walks around with him hanging around his neck, and mind you, our male is over 5and 1/2 feet long!!

I couldnt recommend them more highly.
Tho my female can be a handfull - loves to hiss & strike & headbutt-but has never bitten
The male is a dream

i have your black and white wa ones. This is my experience everyone is telling you different. My girl with bite me every chance she gets. I thought it was a food related thing but i don't think it is as they get fed twice a week every big food items. They are interesting to watch i would recommend them but they do have one of the worst bites i have had.

these are great snakes, but like all things, they have their own personalities. I have 2 sisters 4yrs old this year, both nearly touching 7ft and a male whom will be 8 this year and is 15ft. He is really quiet and great to handle, has bred well and all are great eaters.. the girls are awsome too, except one goes nutty if you put her in the garden or on the grass, then go to pick her up, she gets cranky and she has striked now and then when you go to pick her up.. I just dont put her down too much, always hold her.

they are great,my 2 large adults are the best handlers i have got they are one nice big snake to have in your collection and as for breeding brother and sister you should not have any problems it's just a lot of people dont like doing that but it's up to you....jmo
