Ok, am I the only one that is really, really annoyed by this?

My friend was telling me about this guy that comes through the drive through at our work (yes, i am unfortunately in fast food atm) each morning with a snake around his neck. Everyone thought it was sooo cool >.<

But jeez not only is it illegal, but I shudder to think of the stress the poor snake is under. Not to mention if he is the driver then that is a pretty bad hazard. I can't stand these show off's, and I am just waiting to run into him at work. Although god knows what I'd actually say, I don't exactly want to come off as some know-it-all or something (and I'd rather not be slapped on the head by a manager)... But grrr. I am tempted to tell him if he wants an animal to sit on his shoulder then go buy a parrot. Either that or give him a major roll of my eyes :D

Perhaps alot of my anger is because i would love to be able to walk around with my snake hanging around my neck, but I would never ever put him under that kind of stress just so I can show off.

I don't know if I am the only one annoyed by this, perhaps alot of people take their 'pet' snakes shopping? Ok, I am hoping you guys are more reasonable than this?

Rant over...
For now :p

geeze it's illegal alright stupid people these days, what type of snake is it?

Not 100% sure. I have had people tell me different things. One says it was brown, the other black (hmm I certainly hope not), the other says it was green. I was told it was 2 metres long (although that was most likely an exaggeration). I'm guessing either Stimmy or SW Carpet...

lol my boyfriend had my stimmi asleep in his pocket and went to the shop, wasnt showin her off, just kinda forgot she was there till we got to the shop, then when we got there she woke up and poked her head out and this lil kid almost had a heart attack, he went runnin to his mum and was like 'mum mum that man has a snake in his pocket'.. the mum told the kid off and told him to stop tellin lies haha needless to say we left the shop, i think its a bit stupid to be driving with your snake out in the car, specially around your neck for obvious reasons, my friend took his olive for a spin and the damn thing crawled up behind his dash lol

the guy who got me into this use to take his snake to work on occasion untill when i was studying up and getting my licence i said to him "did you know that its illegal to take your snake to work" to which he replied " NO ! " and he hasnt taken him since.

Yes maybe once I see this guy I might slip that in somehow. It's true he might not know :S

My bluie Dino loves to crawl into the hood of my jumper and go to sleep, I forgot he was there one day and went to the servo to grab a pack of ciggies. Well dino woke up and stuck his head out as the big (i mean big tough mean lookin) bloke was handing me my change, saw dino pokin his head out from my hood, droped the change and stumbled back into the ciggie rack bumbling sssssnnnaakeee!!!!!! Funny as hell though i dont think he saw the funny side. Even after i explained that it was only a harmless lizard.

I now make sure my hood is bare before leaving the house now, Dunno how he would have taken it if it was a snake.

But thats what these show offs dont get. It may be funny to scare a few people and make em jump but some people get REALLY scared. And that aint cool nor funny. Not to mention the stress on the animal

i took my diamond to school for my daughters show and tell ( she needed something starting with "M" {snakes name is Matilda}) i just got a movement advice and sweet as.. too easy.. i think even if you take ya reptile to the vet you need a movement license... dont you?

Everyone thought it was sooo cool >.<

and that's why people do these stupid things.

Whether or not it is legal I guess depends on what license he has his snake under. Although, no matter how you look at it seems like such a pointless exercise. I guess some people need to get over themselves a little.

Despite the topic some funny stories there guys :p Don't know about that movement license bellbird, and taking the snake for a show and tell I think is great, especially for the kids. But taking a snake out shopping just for the hell of it? Every day? Even simple handling each day can stress a snake out...

I've forgotten I had my snake on me a few times when I've gone in the car or to the shops. When I did realise she's there (like from some kid staring or something, lol), I just hide her underneath my shirt or something. But I never worry about her stressing. Snakes that are very used to handling shouldn't really be fussed over something like that. Just look at demonstrating snakes.

Hmm not sure I agree on that last part. Snakes are WILD, snakes cannot be DOMESTICATED... Although we do try, but I don't think we will ever change their natural instincts enough so that they truly enjoy being manhandled by things bigger than them. And excessive handling is enough to stress out any animal (ok, well any undomesticated animal).

And demonstrating snakes are at least transported properly, not the same at all. And the demonstrating snakes I know arent used every day.

I never said that they enjoyed it. Some snakes are very tolerant of handling (eg. my spotted). It depends completely upon the personality of the snake itself.

obviously not real keen on hygiene if you can just "forget" you've been handling your snake.

the people that think walking around showing off their herp is cool, barely have a double digit iq, and the same goes for those that think it's really cool

I dunno how people can just "forget".. Personally when i'm handling my snake i'm always aware of where he is and what he is doing and typically never take my eyes off him.

People who take their reptiles out in public areas to show off are tools, and ones stupid enough to be driving a car with a snake on them are even worse it could cause an accident and endanger not only their own and their pets lives but other peoples all for the sake of trying to get people to think they are cool.

I handle my spotted quite often. I sanitise my hands when I put her back in her enclosure, and wash and/or sanitise my hands before I eat. Do I need anymore?

Likewise with my pythons cause they are always on the move, but dino will crawl into my hood and go to sleep, or sit with just his head poking out, for hours i reckon he watches telly too!

FAIL

Maybe someone should show this guy that drives around with his snake "Gone in 60 seconds" a perfectly good hummer got smashed up cause someone liked to keep their snake in thier car!! and its an awesome movie too!!:D

I did that once. My little stimmy was curled up asleep inside my shirt, around my neck but I had gotten use to him being there. I went out to buy some lunch and someone actually saw him - asked me, is that a snake around your neck there"

I am more careful these days. I don't have the stimmy anymore and my carpets are a bit too big to miss
