Yesterday I noticed that my Childrens Python was shedding really really bad. I hadnt noticed until then because he'd been hiding for the past few days and yesterday was his feeding day so I had to take him out. Well I soaked him in the stuff to help him shed as I always do because he always has trouble shedding by himself.

Well tonight I saw him in the corner of his tank and he wasnt looking too well and the shed was starting to come off, but some of it had grouped slightly down his body so I soaked him for about 30 seconds, holding his head out of the water as he seemed really weak.

About 2 minutes after I soaked him he just died!! I dont know what happened! He just died!!

Could his shed have cut off his circulation and stopped him breathing?
His belly looked slightly purple after he died.

I tried to give him mouth to mouth (as stupid as it sounds) but nothing worked.

:cry::cry::cry:RIP Sammy the Snake :cry::cry::cry:

sorry for your loss:(

If he always needed to be assist shed that to me would indicate ill health.
I would put him in the fridge (not freezer) and take him to the vet for a post mortem to find out the cause.
The purple belly doesnt sound good :? I once had a carpet die of liver failure and he had a dark area on his belly from the liver bursting. Post mortem's your best bet for closure.

Sorry to hear that.
Maybe its a good idea to take him to the vet for an autopsy.

so so sorry for your loss, must be hard. You did all you chould.Im not sure why he passed but i can feel your pain.
R.I.P sammy

thats sad. i really dont think the shed would of cut the circulation off. im just hoping that your snake didnt somehow swollow some water and drown

Im so sorry :( That is very sad
Take him to the vet and find out why, otherwise you will always wonder

Good on you for trying to save him

If you do get an autopsy done could you let us know the results? thanks

Is that sammy in your dp? He must have been a pretty placid guy not to have a go at your beardie. Once again sorry for your loss.

that's fairly unlucky bud, i feel for you. perhaps it wouldn't hurt to take a sample of what you soaked it in if you were to get an autopsy?

I'm sorry to hear about your loss - just for curiosity what did you soak him in?

Its a small mixture of luke warm water and Herpashed. Its only about 1cm deep so I am pretty sure he didnt drown, especially because his head didnt go anywhere near the mixture.

But I use this all the time when he sheds and never have a problem, he usually enjoys swimming around in it.

Yes thats him in my pic. He was only a little fella.
That beardie in the pic with him is actually a toy, looks exactly like my beardie though ;)
