Its a small mixture of luke warm water and Herpashed. Its only about 1cm deep so I am pretty sure he didnt drown, especially because his head didnt go anywhere near the mixture.

But I use this all the time when he sheds and never have a problem, he usually enjoys swimming around in it.

Im sure he didn't drown either things just happen. I do wonder if long term use of products like that do harm - does anyone have an idea about that?

I put money on the chemical killing the snake.

that's nice, why don't you just tell him he killed it. If it's always had trouble sheding maybe it was just a poor runt of the litter that would not have survived on it's own. Not every thing that is born or hatched is healthy. He has done his best and it's a shame that the poor thing died.
Sorry for your loss.

Maybe it was the chemical , he does state he used it all the time and let the animal swim around in it ....cant have done it much good IMO .

So sorry about your loss. I understand what it's like to loose a snake that's so close to you.

The purple belly seems odd. Uuummm, could be a number of things. Cutting off the circulation could be a possibility, but it would have to be pretty tight and the location of the shed. Could be a possibility, but I'm not sure. I know some people don't feed during slough time because the shed can bunch up around the "meal"...if you know what I mean and therefore make it hard for the skin to come off.

Sorry I can't help. I would recommened an autopsy, but that's a personal choice you have. I didn't like giving my little Stella to an autopsy, but I KNOW now it was the right thing to do.

Sorry again...

It was 32 degrees in the hot corner, I didnt check the warm corner because I was in shock about him dying....
He was only about 7 months old.

sorry but I don't see that it has anything to do with soaking in a shedding solution, it was only 7 mths old so has probably only shed 3-4 times, it sounds like it has been not a healthy python from the start.
If you have other reptiles it would be good to get some advice from your local vet, just in case and for your peace of mind.

Fair enough it may have been sick from the start but do you really thinking soaking a snake every time it sheds in chemicals is good for it especially if it was sick as you suggest , would have stressed the hell out of it .

I was actually advised by a vet to soak him everytime he sheds just to help loosen the skin off as he was constantly having troubles shedding by himself, the chemicals are very weak and I only put a ratio of 1 part chemical 15 parts water anyway. And have been doing this for the past 6 months since I have had him. I dont think it was the chemicals that caused him to die as he seemed weak before I soaked him.

sorry to hear :(

+1 for taking it to the vet tho, cant save sammy but may be abe to help you with your next snake

"Its a small mixture of luke warm water and Herpashed. Its only about 1cm deep"

all I'm saying is whenever somthing happens, people blame the chemicals, if you take it to a vet they will tell you to use them, if its needed, for there benifet of the python. there's no need to tell someone that has just lost a pet that its their fault, because they thought they were helping it. they were probably told to use it. it sounds like it may have had other problems, so i don't think a mixture of warm water and herpashed killed it.

Sorry to hear about the loss.

Make sure you get a autopsy done it will most likely only cost around 70$ so you know what it died of incase it has some kind of disease that can be spread to your other herps.

I dont think he drowned, or was strangled by his shed.

Are you in Melbourne?

If so take him to Peter Cameron in North Altona Vet Clinic.

He did the autopsy for me for the snake i purchased recently that died.

Jeez, lucky I was being nice to the kid, you should see me on a bad day...... I'd say what I really think happened, but I may pop your bleeding heart.

Well I think I have just solved the problem!
I just spoke to a friend and she advised that people and animals in my area have been getting sick lately when they drink water that hasnt been boiled or left to sit for too long.

I just cleaned the snakes tank out on saturday and put in fresh water, and he had a drink about 2 hours before he died.

Looks like I will be using rain water from now on for all my pets and boiling water first to kill anything inside of it!!

Gees hay that's got to sux sorry for your loss

So what did JosonL have to say that couldn't be posted on here
