PC, for me since I game a lot, and because I hate the Mac operating system.

Far more adaptable, cheaper, and with a lot more programs at their disposal.
This is changing, with the recent influx of Mac fans, and in a few years, hopefully this will no longer be true. I'm all for equal access to programs without needing one brand of OS over the other. The busier the market gets, the better for the user base.

All comes down to preference in the end. How riled up people get over one side of the fence vs the other always baffles me.

I bought a 17inch macbook pro so pretty much one of the best laptops mac offers. And of course who runs web and media servers on windows.. run them on linux. And when you say you built a gigabyte i7.. you built a motherboard?
The facts are, what ive stated. My gaming rig is better then any mac on the market, and i can do everything else its not just gaming only.. and mac is just a shiny linux anything a mac can do a linux and windows computer of equivalent value can do better. Personally i prefer linux so im not a pc fanboy. oh and running a webserver or media server on mac would be plain silly, if your going to use a unix based OS then everyone will pic a linux.

I've hardly used linux, aside from the basic Ubuntu OS. It's just not my cup of tea. As for using mac for a server, if you know how to use it, then why not? I really don't care what everyone thinks! Oh, and yes I built a mobo, with a icecream container, 2 paddle pop sticks and a car battery!

crappy debate..... It comes down to how capable the user is IMO

Aside from the first comment your 100% right...

I not running 400 clients and ended users on a massive intranet....

One one machineI use MAMP to run Apache and MySQL..... And on the other machine I run my home media server... no probs!!

IMO the det (department of education) REALLY *********UP ! by cancelling their contract with apple,
if they hadnt fully switched over to lenovo (IBM) then year 9/10 student MIGHT have mac instead of tiny, slow pieces of PC Fudgola ....

ps. i have always had PC, and hate them with a passion. i am saving up for a macbook pro, iphone 4, and some gtp's :p

IMO I dont think the tax payers need to fork out upwards of $1500 for a mac for every student.....

true, very true when you look at it that way...
i am typing now (as alot of my post are) on my school laptop, and it is very slow even booting up... the battery life is less than the time we are expected ot be at school, and barely any of the teachers know how to use a computer, so really the whole idea is a flop...
i guess its too late now anyway...

Be happy you even got 1 !!!!

I would have killed to be given a laptop at school!!!!

i know, i sound like a spoilt brat at the moment... i am just going to stop digging my own grave now ...

Because of Apple's new consumer driven approach they've gone to quickly forward.... My girlfriend works with iPhones and has specifically mentioned Telstra (and other phone companies) worries with the new iPhone - it's software goes down more times than an Italian striker at the world cup.

The real issue is - people wanted more, and all of a sudden Apple began to listen... they've cornered their market, now they pwn you!

The real issue is - they listened, then consumerised their products dramatically. This meant overlooking Software issues - does this ring bells of Bill Gates to anyone?

So what we've just created is Windows number 2.... But it's not Windows (luckily).

If you don't believe me - buy one and find out for yourself....

iPads for sure - all cool.... but when you look at the alternatives, I'd say you're throwing good money away for the purely less functional iPad for a name... You may as well just kit up with some D&G but stick with wearing $2 shop fake canvas shoes....

I most definitely aren't saying there's something wrong with the pad the pod or the phone... I'm just saying it in plain truth... They're unable to do what they really want them to and they're rushing them out now to overcome the influx of other AWESOME phones from the likes of HTC etc.... in other words - Android is beginning to pwn the competition.... Android has 40,000 new applications coming available and is operated by Google... I tell you what I'd go for before I took anything that started with 'i'.

iPhone 4 reception - hmmmmm Noted as the WORST reception for any phone (including a $49 Telstra phone).... Advantage... good resolution screen.....

So good luck with your iBuys....

PC or MAC.... Cake or whipped cream?

I have a better solution... Have both together...
I run a home made PC beast of a machine (16 gigs of ram with 3.8 ghz and a 2 gig video card) that runs on apple software with the option to flip to windows 7 for gaming...

No virus crap, best performance... It's called "Having your cake with the whipped cream on top".
As for the other apple crap... one word... Fail.

I've had an android phone for some time and it has the same issues.... well expect for the itunes bit....

slimy.. too dependent on iTunes? It is an Apple product! It's fine for it to be 100% dependent on iTunes.

In my eyes Apple's best invention is iTunes. They have made everything SO easy... easy to buy music, easy to store music, easy to update your phone/laptop/mp3 player with music. iTunes is functional and so easy a retarded chimp could figure it out.. I reckon it is the basis of Apple's success and they have nowhere to go but up. In 20 years I reckon 90% of people will own Apple phones and laptops.

I have an iPhone, an old MacbookPro and my family has one Mac computer in the house too and I am 100% happy with them.. Our PCs are clunky and painfully slow and tedious in comparison. Apple's interface makes everything so damn easy and my brother's new Macbook Pro has to be the fastest computer I have ever seen. I do agree iPads are completely stupid and useless though, but damn Apple's marketing is good.. they have the world by the short and curlies that's for sure!

The suggestion here (for the very new Android HTC Desire) for the main disadvantages (from the same site as above) are:

Main disadvantages:

* Disappointing video quality
* Limited storage available to the user on the system partition (you are left with only 120 MB for installing apps)
* No DivX and XviD video playback
* No voice dialing
* Non hot-swappable memory card

That most certainly seems a fair whack less than the iPhone....

Secondly... as for reception quality - are you with Telstra? Do you have a Desire or a Experia (told it's crap). There's another low range LG phone too... But the Desire is what I am looking at.

I guess if you're an Apple fan you'll be smitten with what ever apple throw at you - regardless of how far from the tree it falls....

But the above site also compares - and this is what they have to say:

HTC Desire vs. Apple iPhone 4 - GSMArena.com

Apple could sell chocolate teapots if they really wanted.
...Ipad...

This is a debate with too many sides.
Average Joe, Tech genious, School kids, gamers.

Liasis having a laptop at school is more trouble than its worth. A book with notes in it will win hands down:p

I've got a HTC hero... As for telstra you couldn't pay me to use that service..

It's a shame that I'm not a retarded chimp, or even a less fortunate chimp and I managed to move out of the drones of masses and find incredible software that plays music, allows me to modify tracks, copy them, pass them to CD, put them on MULTIPLE players - and all this without even having to crack the DRM... my goodness... I only wished I was a retarded chimp now... because then I'd be locked into the iGimicks and believe me... my freedom just isn't worth it :)

PS - I'm happy to note I dislike Windows Media Player - but by golly by gosh... I can copy and play what I like without ever needing an iTunes voucher!

Just go three km off the beaten track in the far north and you'll understand why we're locked into Telstra... Even in Freshwater (a major suburb of Cairns) you can't pick up any other network provider BUT Telstra... but sorry to assume that there's no other providers, it's just unfortunate we live in the Far Forgotten North... :)

I think this debate has too many viewpoints as Jannico said. For me, who owns an iPod, iTunes is completely perfect and lacks nothing.. My mac is perfection for me as is my iPhone because they do exactly what I want.. people who start spouting techno jargon at me give me headaches and probably have a lot more requirements of their equipment than I do - which is why they prefer other stuff over Apple.

I also hate the idea that Apple customers are idiots who will buy anything Apple releases.. I own non-Apple products too, but I find them rubbish. I had a Sony mp3 player for many years before someone bought me an iPod for my birthday and thought it was great.. until I got an iPod. My laptop and my iPod are old old models now but are still great and I am not rushing off to by Apple's newest things. I am happy with my old iPhone and don't want an iPhone4 because I don't see the need.. and as for the iPad, I can't tell the difference between it and 4 iPod Touches taped together..

Agreed.
I think that the Itouch and Ipadis waste of time. Ipone isnt for me right now
Althought it can do some amazing stuff.
Another reason apple works so well is its popular.
More people have it, more people know how to use it, more applications that are easy to find.
They just made it easy, which is what the customer wants.
My mac laptop is working pretty well right now. And my 5 year old Ipod is still awesome.
