Nothing worse than lying in bed and staring at the ceiling, falling into the trap of getting frustrated that you're not falling asleep and inevitably making things worse.

Anyone got any tips for getting a decent nights sleep...without the use of medication?

A zinc tablet about 20 mins before bed used to work a treat for me, and the first few weeks of taking a tablet before bed gave me the most vivid and insane dreams I've ever had. It doesn't seem to have the same effect these days though.

Drone Music
Check out Sunn0
And i always to be full before trying to sleep.

...and can I get a Zinc tablet please haha.

I just woke up 15 mins ago to the sound of my stimmy crashing onto something in his enclosure so I had to get up to check on him.. Now I'm wide awake..

For me warm milk, or lying with my head at the end of the bed instead of lying normally lol (weird I know) are the only things that work for me!

It is 3:37 am here, so I will be avidly following this thread.

It is worse when still after all that you have to get up a 4am

Phernergen. Two half an hour before you go to bed, the best 12 hours i've ever had.

You know what's worse than insomnia? Tinnitus!

My mum has terrible insomnia and she uses that phernergen stuff.
If you're a bit of a reader you can try reading something quite dry. It only takes about 15-20 mins for that to work for me if it's really boring material. I've been told tv or computers are a big no no because they are too stimulating. Also supposedly your body has these sort of rhythms of sleepiness and wakefulness. If you get to know yourself you will feel when you are at one of these "sleepiness valleys" if you like and that is your best chance of falling asleep. I read that when you feel this coming on, you need to drop everything and try to fall asleep before it passes. Don't even try to finish your paragraph/chapter (if you're reading) just put it down and turn the light off

I tried to post this at like 7 am but it wouldn't work.

From last Sunday (not yesterday) till early Thursday morning (after origin night) I didn't sleep at all. I've had broken bits of sleep throughout the last few days, maybe half an hour a night.

Friday night i decided to make the trip home for a prostitutes and policemen party. Got to my destination after a 4 hour drive at 2 am Saturday, didn't sleep, went to the party, got annihilated. Slept for about an hour in my car.

Drove back here last night, stopped close to home to pick up a Trailer for my brother. It was fully loaded and I had to drag it all the way up a slippery grass hill to the road, as I didn't want to wake the occupants of the house up, or tear their grass up.

I took my thongs off for more grip and my feet suffered at the hands of freezing wet grass....

Got to the top of the hill, let the front end of the trailer down because it wouldn't roll away, stare triumphantly and prepare to jump in the car to reverse to the trailer.

*car window rolls down*

My gf: "Need a hand, babe"?

Me: -.-

Finally got home and all done at about 2 am this morning I jumped into
Bed. Stared at the Walls and ceiling. Woke up at 5 and went to a Job interview at a construction site.

Running on pure adrenaline.*

Insomnia almost drove me to suicide.

That is...until I solved both my depression (to a great extent but not entirely) and my insomnia with a miracle drug called Avanza. I'm now on 90mg (2 x 45mg tablets) every night about 8pm, then at bed at around 930pm.

Even now I still suffer from depression, but at least it's being kept under control. I can't explain why I feel the way I do but I'll just keep it quick and simple - lots of major life trauma has done that to me.

Phenergen is good to help you sleep, but If you talk to your doctor about it it should only be use as a TEMPORARY solution.

When I had sleep troubles I used natures own natural sleep (or something like that) it's really great! It will eventually change your sleep pattern (if taken correctly) and slowly get off them then your troubles are fixed! It help sets your body clock to get used to going to sleep at the appropriate hours, after taking them I have no problem getting to sleep anymore.

Everyones different but I suffered from extreme night terrors and insomnia and made me all good :)

I am an insomniac but I like it..... when I am going through a period of crashing cause I have been burning the candle at both ends, I use meditation
this is what I do....
go and relax yourself each body part at a time, try and block all thought except the body part in question you usuallay feel as though you are floating. Move onto visualising the most gorgeous, serene, beautiful place that you would ever wish to be in(you can add a lust object heh heh heh)keep focusing on detail of the visualisation add more and more eventually you nod off. This also works for stress, it can take practice if you are not used to meditating and/or clearing your mind(no smart comments please ROFL) of the flotsam and jetsom of life.
Good luck

I've heard meditation or at least learning to get yourself into meditative like states can do incredible things for stress actually

Hey Ben,
I'm on AVANZA also. but I still have terrible problems sleeping. Its not that I can't sleep, But I wake up many times during the night, and have troule falling back to sleep. It's kinda like I'm in a state between sleep and awake. I'm alert most of the time, and wake as soon as my bedroom door opens, when my lil bro tries to sneak in and steal my ciggs or chocolate or something (annoying little runt, lol) Also find myself having terrible weird dreams all the time. Been happening since before I started AVANZA. The doc tells me its probably stress and anxiety, and prescribed me some temazepam. Temazepam works, but I find that it knocks me around the next day, and I find it hard to wake up too, so I stopped taking them. Not to mention it can become habit forming and very addictive :( Glad to hear its working for you, at least the avanza is keeping my depression in check

**edit**
I know for a fact that I also suffer from sleep paralysis, maybe thats what causing my issues and I will tell my doctor bout this on my next visit.

Bradchip, if your having vivid, insane dreams, and have the same symptoms as me (being stuck in a state between being asleep and awake) you may suffer from sleep paralysis like me. Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night and discovered that you cannot move? That your paralysed? Only lasts a short time, but feels like an eternity and can be real frightening. (not long ago, they were called entity attacks and people believed that it was ghosts or entitys holding you down and suffocating you. I now know its a medical condition, but it still scares the **** outta me everytime it happens. It drives me insane thinking what if...)

Sex is good before sleep. Or you can try some LEGAL weed like Pinapple Express.

I always have trouble to sleep. Ive cut out computers, no luck. I've had some herbal tea that apparently works really well, no luck. I dont want to try tablets and stuff though.

ive been there so frustrating, i had insomnia for bout a month due to stress would take me a good 3 -4 hours to fall asleep but would then wake up after 20 min of sleepin for few hours nod off again and then be awake till my alarm went off! i tried alot of herbel remedies, "substances" excercise, reading, yoga and still no sleep..then i got onto some zanax :) :) doctors wouldnt prescribe me any coz they thought it wouldnt help my insomnia pffft

I had a period where I was sleeping 8+ hours a night but felt like I was only nodding off for a few seconds, plenty of sleep but zero rest. It was bloody terrible.

ln a lot of cases this non or interupted sleeping pattern is caused by a twitching in the central nervous system instigated by a lack of calcium this can be reversed dramatically in"most" cases by adults taking a calcium plus tablet or tablets in an adult with a stength of 1000-1200 mg 20-30 minutes before bed the tablets purchased should contain besides calcium vitamins d3 and magnesium which aid with the absorbtion of calcium into your system, Caltrate is one recommended brands but there are several on the market....solar 17 (Baden) ps. The upside of these tablets in both men and women is Osteoporoses will not be a problem which is fast becoming endemic due to poor diet and lack of exercise.....
