I'm sitting at work at the moment bored out of my mind so thought I would start a thread on the worst job of owning reptiles.. The cleaning!!
I know you can buy the cleaning sprays but I'm not a fan of chemicals, so thought I would ask people to give ideas on easy clean up tips they have learnt along the way. Any tips would be appreciated thanks!!

Newspaper and water for glass, works a treat.. Thats the only "trick" I know :( Sorry.

l use normal diswashing liquid in warm water to clean my python enclosures, but if the smell is so strong l use methylated spirits, it helps to get rid of the strong smells from inside the enclosures, once its dried out the smell from the methylated spirits does not hang around for hours or days, like some other strong cleaning chemicals can.

l don't use newspaper as substrate on the floor of any of my reptile enclosure, all my enclosures have laminex glued to the floor-walls-ceilings, which helps to protect the timber from their toilet droppings - water spillage - moisture in the air.:)

i use enjo... i brought it last month for my reptiles after using it around the house for years...
i use the bathroom glove to clean up the glass/dust with just water and the merical which gives a perfact finish :)

I have descoverd the joy's of aspen snake bedding thoe not cheap.

1- It seems to asprob the rough odure of snake poo

2- You can just put a disposable glove on to remove poos and soiled area's

3- I now do a total clean out once a month on inclousers instead of twice weekly

4- It looks a lot nicer than just news paper on the bottom

5- I remove the snakes from therir inclouisers for feeding as I dont think that it would be good for them to ingest but i have always feed outside of the inclouser.

A pair of my murrys in an inclourer that is due for a total clean after 4 weeks

The worst job for when it comes to keeping reptiles is cleaning their dirty enclosures, and trying to get those that wont feed to feed, and trying to handle reptiles that only want to bite you every time you go near them, cause they don't want to be touched or handle at all.

Sorry but if your here to argue I'm not interested.... I'm sure there is a million worse things that could be part of owning reptiles, but I'm talking about cleaning tips and tricks that have worked for others.

I don't mind cleaning enclosures as I wouldn't like to live in a room with my own poo in the corner.
It does stretch the friendship if the snakes get the renovation bug and try to paint the walls with it.
Nothing a sprayer with 500:1 F10 won't fix though.:)

i find if you spot clean when you see poop, cuts the load down by half, the big job for me is cleaning out yodas desert sand every 7-8mths. because its compact and hard, theres like 10kg of the stuff so yeah, but he's just had that change done not long ago so it will be december before it needs to be done again.

Yeah I spot clean too... How do you get all the sand out? Just a dustpan? My partner is getting a lizard tomorrow so depending on what he decides on no doubt he will he shoveling it too

i use a container from the cheap shop to scoop out as much as i can and then i use a trowel or mini shovel and put the rest into the container that way, put it into a woolies bag and chuck it out, vacuum whats left out and clean, then put new stuff in

I use a steam cleaner with all different nifty attachments, works a treat!

I use to mix aquirium activated carbon with my sand in my storr's montior inclouser and do a total clean every 3 months I am not sure if this had any real benifit but nerver use to notice a smell from to tank. Has anyone one else tryed mixing carbon with sand?
