ok so i just bought 2 bredli's and a spotted python. guy said he was not sure if they were on licence as he got them off a mate, then called me back and said they were. so i said ok i'll buy them but want proof they are on licence. so he drops them off and tells me he has not got his licence sent out yet, does not shock me they are slow mail stuff out. but he says he has it on his phone as he requested they email him one. he showed me, was exactly same as mine just details different. so i got the details and bought the snakes. then i get a phone call off someone asking if i still wanted to buy bredli's i said nah i got 2 yesterday, he asked were they a 7 month old pair, i siad yeah he then asked was the guy from penrith. i said yeah and he then tells me they were off licence and that the guy bought those 2 off him.

so moron dobs him self in for selling snakes off licence, but know i don't know what to do?

Don't be too quick to call someone a moron - you've bought the snakes without hard proof yourself, AND you've dobbed yourself in here!

A call to DoEH is what you must do now. No other action is appropriate.

jamie, i never intentionaly bought them off license, but he sold them intentionaly. will be calling them to find out if its true or not. as the bloke on the phone could be full of ****.

i'm a newbie here and to snakes, thanks for the friendly welcome. not.

i was looking for help, not to have it thrown in my face.

It's very simple.
When buying reptiles in NSW both parties need to hold a valid Animal Keepers License. When you go to buy/sell/swap a reptile BOTH parties need to make sure the other party is appropriately licensed. The details of the licenses need to be swapped with each other at the time of sale/swap/buy.

So quite obviously you understand this yet still bought from someone who was obviously shady, therefore you are just as much to blame as this person is and hence Jamie's response.

I was just pointing out that you need to be vigilant is all... and I did suggest what you should do, so I offered sound advice... Your use of the term "moron" was a bit like the pot calling the kettle black...

Read a few threads about similar issues recently.

Why doesn't OEH and other equivalent interstate organisations have a quick search online where you can input a license number/full name and suburb and it will say either yes, that license/name is valid or no, invalid license number/expired/not found etc?

Would be so much easier and would PREVENT these types of situations from happening and therefore save time/money for OEH by not needing investigations and phone calls etc.

totally agree with that thyla. i wish they did. i only bought them cause he showed me a licence and the email that it came from was from Wildlife Licensing and Management Unit nsw

Would lead to significant security problems especially for large or expensive collections.

Because people will "phish" for license details. AKLXXXXX and they have a license number and a name to go with it.
Just view their licenses...very simple.

The best idea I would think is go the same way as everything else in govt licencing and have a holographic photo licence...

i agree with deadpan and its not like it would cost them that much to have it that way , we could just go to the rta to have them printed like they do with gun licences that way they wouldn't have to buy any new machinery to print the licences themselves and if we paid to have each licence printed then theoretically it wouldn't cost deccw a thing so they dont really have any excuses

one condition of this license is
This licence does not authorise commercial trade in nativeanimals or the activities described in the National Parks and Wildlife Act,1974 under the definition of Fauna Dealer.

yet it basicaly is a comercial trade wen it comes to licensing. people tell me to buy off a breeder "some"

are comercial traders. they only do it for money. do you think so many people would breed snakes if it was illegal to sell and we could only give them away for free.

Well currently you need to provide a full name and address of the seller/buyer. And I have purchased from people who just mention their name and either suburb or suburb and street (not number) to protect their specific address from possible security threats. I don't see how this would make it any easier than the current method?

I thought maybe a card from DECCW when renewing to keep in your wallet with the details on it

Department of Sustainability and Environment in Victoria has this. It's handy I must admit.

But the other issue is that half the time I am trading with someone I don't even see their face. It's an interstate trade and there is no possibility to "verify" someone's identity even if photo identification is provided.

Is Black a derogatory term? :)

If you submit a license number given to you then even if it's fake you personally should get in the sh$&. If you honestly believe there license number and name etc given to be the truth then what else can you do, unfortunately the honesty system doesnt always work especially when people are spending a lot of time and money to breed the weird and wonderful is there any wonder you have unscrupulous people out there.
