I am new to blue tongue ownership and need some advice please. Our baby bluey seems to have one eye closed most of the time. He seems to struggle to open it. I was concerned so I took him/her to the vet and the vet prescribed five days worth of antibiotics which need to be injected into his tail. I am a little concerned about giving the injections and was wondering if anyone had any advice?

The vet advised there is little chance of me doing him any damage and I have given lots of injections to my horses but I am still concerned. Mainly of frightening the little guy or causing him to become aggressive.

He is eating really well (mainly snails) but spending most of his time hiding.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

sometimes they will sit there with an eye shut, did u see a specialised reptile vet?normally they give meds that u administer in there mouths, but i guess depends on whats prescribed,do u know what the medicine is,and did the vet tell you whats exactly wrong with your bluey, the fact that its eating is a good sign though

The vet had an interest in reptiles so not sure if that classifies them as a specialized reptile vet. I couldn't get the liquid antibiotics because he is too small and the amount was too small to draw up. The medicine is Baytrill 50.

The vet thought it might be the start of an infection. We also flushed his eye.

Thanks
