Hi everyone,

I own a blue tongue skink that I bought this year in January.

For the last 4 months it's been living with another blue tongue skink (from the same family)

Well, today it has been biting it's own tail. At first I thought it was the other skink attacking this one so I seperated them and it started biting it's own tail!

It was bleeding but has stopped. It is eating fine (like a pig actually) the light/heating is perfect. The tank is 6ft with rocks, hiding areas, fake plants ... etc

What could be the cause of this blue tongue doing this?
It has got me quite worried.
What should I do with it? Put it back in the tank? Keep it seperated?

Help please!

Could be that the other skink was attacking it, and has caused some damage to the tail. The resulting pain could then have caused the skink to bite its own tail. I'd definitely be keeping them separated, and would treat the wounds with diluted Betadine.

I agree with mr bredli, that is the most likely cause. Spongebob had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago with a she-oak skink.
