I honestly do not know what you are all going on about?
To my knowledge the Wild Expo will be held again like it has in previous years apart from last year and they will be having a display at the Royal Easter Show, which is no different then other hobbyists displaying their cats, rats, cavies etc.

Displaying them at the Eater Show opens the hobby up to your average punter that would not ever be bothered to go to a reptile show/expo.

Hopefully Anthony can get on here and clarify things.

It wasn't run over multiple days at the show.
Did you attend the Castle Hill expo or the HHS expo at Penrith? IMO they were run just as well as the last one at Homebush. The HHS one still had the great Nev. Burns and Anthony Stimpson doing their nature talks. There were heaps of animals on display, including elapids from people's private collections. If more people got involved it would only have helped to improve it

I know it was not run over multiple days at the show. That is part of my point, that it is far better of a multi day well organized show separate from the Easter Show.
I attended the Penrith show, in my opinion it was far less interesting than the last show at Homebush, it even had less variety of animals at it which was the one thing I thought it could stay up with. Sure these shows are great and can improve in coming years, but I do not see how they can replace a 3 day show that is well entrenched with displays not just of reptiles but amphibians and inverts, and considerable ability to draw in exhibitors from around Australia. The displays at the Wild Australia expo each time I have been there have been absolutely amazing the Penrith show could not hold a candle to them.

I did think it might be a one year only thing, I am making my argument that I would not like to see it held like it was this year again, replacing the expo with one only at the Easter show. I do love the concept that reptiles be displayed at the Easter Show to the general public and that this brings more recognition of this fabulous hobby to more people. What I do not like is that it appeared to be at the expense of holding such a great show which draws so many already reptile enthusiasts from all over the place.

I agree with Fay -this thread does not make sense. The "Expo" was not at the Easter Show. What happened instead was the expo was given a year off and for the first time ever Reptiles and Amphibians were competatively displayed at the Easter Show. I've got a RAS Easter Show blue ribbon to prove it. It was a huge success and put herps into the same category as other domestic or pet animals. It's likely to continue, but that does not mean "The Expo" will not return.

Of course there are plenty of other expos around run by the various herps clubs. I reckon there were more opportunities this year for buying and selling and general herpie socialising than ever before.

Oh and another thing -have you ever thought what it is like being a private breeding selling at a three day expo! Bring on the one day events I say!

I personally think that it was great, the nature shows that Anthony and the rest performed were great and attracted large crowds
The last day with the comp was very good as well but you have to cut Anthony some slack as most of you don't understand the work that goes into all of the expos and displays that occur
It is not that simple to just set up everything and have it all ready, this pro Cesar takes about a week and then they have to pack up
I'm not sure how many of you help out with this or with even the actual days that the expos fall on but it's not as easy as it sounds and their are many jobs that get forfilled
I would just like to say that even though the sydney expo wasn't held this year there are so many other expos to go to, even though they are no wear as good but are still expos and offer the same thing,
Next year Anthony is thinking of having at the Easter show again and having a three day comp with different classes each day as well as having the shows for the public but only time will tell and we will find out faster than u think as time flies
So overall I think everyone should cut Anthony some slack as unless you know what's involved with these occasions and how much effort and time goes into them
Hope that clears a lot of argument
Cheers Jake

Anthony spoke at Illawarra Reptile Society a few months back and said Wild Expo is going ahead next year separately to Royal Easter Shows reptile competition. There will be no best in show comp at Wild Expo, only the one at the Easter show, perhaps even with different categories on different days.

I just think that people didnt like it being at the Royal Easter Show because, if the displays are focussed on the uninformed public, that leaves little room for the keepers. Also, the fact that it is part of another show sort of makes it seem like less of a big event, and more like a secondary duty. Another thing, we like having our own little special events to attend. Whats the point of being part of a close knit society of great people, if every slag and joe is invited? I just think that a show should be done at the easter show, but not the wild australia one. But the fact that they'll be separate again is good, and the organisers/ breeders/ all around good guys did deserve a year off.
