I thought i'd add some info i have after experimenting with crix breeding, i have actually found, that when you put the peatmoss or sand in for egg laying it should be very moist, and most people have said to keep it moist right through until they hatch, however i have found, that by letting the peatmoss dry out over a period of a week, the crix hatch in half the time as if they are kept moist, in fact, i have had hatching containers stay dormant until i have dried it out. so - a time line-
put the crix laying container in
wait three-five days
remove and put into heated rearing box (with no lid on the peatmoss)
2-3 days in the rearing container, they hatch!
so basicly, after the initial wetting of the peatmoss, i add no further moisture. i couldn't agree more with previous threads that have said that heating is very important, i stepped up my crix egg laying 10 fold after adding a 60watt bulb to there click clack.
