Wow, that's certainly a different look for an enclosure.

Not sure I'd go that far myself, but it's certainly a refreshing change from the depressing 'soviet-style-white-melamine-waterbowl-hide-and-newspaper-substrate' look. If you want to keep it like that, then I suggest you do and simply monitor your snake to make sure he's not stressed by it. I'm not sure how much of anything the different pythons can see, so it might be confusing him, or he might not even be able to see much beyond light and dark.

I do tend to prefer a more natural looking environment personally, but then again, I suppose it's a little on the demented side to try to create a natural-looking environment for them seeing as they are so very far from anything they would consider natural now.

ty for your positive opinion.
I have seen SOOOOO many different snakes in different enclosures (my friend owns a reptile shop - you should see his house)
and they are all just .. stones or tanbark with plain white walls from the enclosure.. i mean mine used to be like that.
Even the enclosures at all the dif. reptile places, breeders and expos i have been to are almost cruel and far far far from natural.
So i thought I wouldn't be going to out of the ordinary for a snake to cope with. Meaning his eyes are so small... he spends most of his time either in his hide box or close to the grown i considered he would not be able to be hurt from any glare or whatnot that i might be able to see.. only coz i can see so much of the cage at once....

so far he has been his normal self. hes been climbing his walls... in his water bowl, round his hide, staring at his globes... hes has yet to show signs of being scared or comfortable.

If anything has changed it is the little bit of condensation on the glass... (might have to do with just refilling the water bowl which is right next to the glass)

I am keeping a VERY close eye on him. every time the light goes on I observe him until it goes off.
And i will continue to watch his behaviour until i am satisfied he is 100%.

Any signs that suggest otherwise the contact will be the first thing to go..

:)

I'm just trying tot sort out my light issue now lol.

Forget all those coloured reptile globes and just use a normal house globe for light and heat. Stick a heatmat underneath for night heat.

perhaps it might be an idea to use one blue 40W party light and the 40W reptaglow.
instead of a blue AND red. (minimize reflection) ??

- well until i can hunt down a 25w party globe?
all ya need is 2 blue after lookin at those pics i think i feel sick :D use white gravel man i do feel sick

Would you want to live in that ?????

I don't see why i couldn't have an enclosure thats like that.. has anyone else tried?
Unless there is hard-evidence that it is not a good idea then of course i would rip it all down straight away. thats why i came here to post my question.. as i know there are people here who know a lot - i have already consulted people that know a lot.

I am not a cruel person. it took me weeks to consider doing it.
that was after i saw 2 snake cages at a shop that had fluro yellow and blue stones in it..the other red.

thought it was a decent idea having a little bit abnormality.

Please don't think i did it just because i thought it might look good and thats that.
If there are honestly reasons why i shouldn't or if my snake shows signs of uncertainty you can be sure it will come down and never return.

Im just trying new things.

in fact i think he likes it. he can grip to the sides more...

are you gonna hand us out invites for our snakes to the next blue light disco, the last pic is cool, looks like his hot tub for those 'comin down' or put on a bit of Barry White and invite the 'ladies...oh yeaaah'....ya crayzee kid, its cool.. party safe :)

Just say NO to drugs kids!!!!

I don't know what it is, but everyone on this site is making me laugh tonight.:D

fsasnicky, there isn't really anything wrong with the enclosure, and may not concern the snake at all. It's just a bit trippy, and some may also say 'impractical'. The most simple set-up always seems to be the best for the keeper and the animal in question.

ok i changed the red light to the reptaglow 40W.
i will look into changing the blue into a 25W reflector... this is the enclosure now.. its not as bright.. and will be less bright when i get the other globe.

im not a fan of using lights and heat mats together its either one or the other so what about forget the lights and use a heat mat there for no glare :D

not Boring

This is my enclosure. It's not boring but not to out there.
Better for snake I think they are much happier with natural.

thats nice.
it reminds me of how mine used to look like.

the herp. vet came the other day and basically took all that stuff out... like everything.. my trees..longs to climb.. everything. he said it was scaring my snake.. but i dunno coz i had it like that for over a year.. he said its better to have less stuff.. so i found another way to make my cage interesting.

he has not changed one bit since.. he is still his happy little self. so i guess it might be something not worthy of worry.

:)

I would be a bit concerned that your snake could burn itself by wrapping around a naked globe. Would you consider a guard for the light globe?

i was too..
a few ppl told me its ok if i cant get a guard because 40w wouldnt hurt him. but i worry a lot.. he doesnt really climb on it.. he has only ever climbed on it a few times - luckily he was off before the light came on.. he just likes to look at it.. or get close to it.. he will rarely touch it..

i am looking into a guard next time i go get his food. :)

i think your vet is a nob :D

why??

he seems to know a lot more then anyone else i know - well obviously considering he specialises in reptiles.
he is recommended by so many people.. thats why i coughed up the money for him.
he was recommended by almost everyone who works in the reptile shops i know.. he writes articles for magazines and is very knowledgeable.
I trust his decision. It has worked so far.

What the vet said doesn't make any sense to me? The more hides, things to explore the happier the snake in my opinion.

It's definetly an unusual tank but i do prefer natural themed, seems to me like it's way too colourful and if the snake would stress about anything it would be that. Look at it this way, if you were in that kind of environment for a long duration of time per day, i think it would stress your eyes and brain. Also having had the snake in there and then taking it out into the normal sunlight could strain your snakes eyes.

As with your heat lamp, i personally use ceramic heat lamps, 100w, but the wattage depends on the size of your enlcosure, your lamps look pretty low so i might even use a 50w. I would never not use a cover (for snakes), just for safety's sake. If you wanted light in your enlocsure, why don't you just use a normal household low wattage yellow coloured light? Simulates the colour during the day but i still don't think any light is required as long as it has some access to natural light.
