How to attach Thumbnails to a post

Sorry for the dumb question but how do you attach the Thumbnail type pics to a post.
When I used the attachment on the top row when posting it just put the picks on their & not as thumbnails.

Could someone tell me the secret? Pretty please.

go advanced Additional Options, manage attachments attach file

in your last post the one with the pics, click on the pics and they are full size

Thanks for that. It was just other peoples posts have the Thumbnail Images on them.

I'm not even sure which way is better?
