Hey all
Deciding between either a jungle or a jaguar for a first snake, but cant decide.
- Which has a better temperament/easy to handle?
- how large are they respectively
- viv conditions different?
- any other general comments/opinions

thanks!

Ultimately, it depends on the snake.

There's a gigantic price difference between a jungle and a jag too, which is something to consider also.

Jags are merely a genetic deviation, some are a cross breed between normal carpets (Coastal, Darwin etc.) and a Jungle python to a certain degree, some aren't.
Both will get to be about the same size, 1.6-2.2m, and require the same basic heating and housing requirements, they're basically the same snake.

Jungles are known to be a bit more aggressive than coastals, my mate got bitten by his big boy on the wrist, and lost 4 pints of blood, but once again it comes down the snake, its housing, and how much you handle it.

Jungles are known for being snappy but handle them enough as a hatchling and you won't have a problem.

Depends on the locality of the Jungle you are looking at. They come in a variety of sizes. From the smaller Palmerstons up to the larger Atherton.
- viv conditions different?
Jungle carpet pythons have your basic python viv needs. Height, heat and hides. Very simple.

A jaguar carpet python is very similar to a crossbred dog, you do not know what traits the pups will take from either parent. Depending on what kind of cross you are buying will make more of a difference but in simple terms it's just a matter of picking something you like.

Although, there's also the potential for neuro problems that needs to be considered with Jaguars, I don't know too much about that, but it's there.
