Ash she doesn't look too bad to me, if it is just that peice of carapce that has broken off i would expect her to survive. The good thing about a shell is that it will protect all the vital organs from impact such as a being hit by a car, if they aren't going to make it they will generally die almost instantly. I don't have the same hope for the eggs though, stress can bring them on prematurely.

Dab the wound with betadine to prevent infection and get her to a carer.

im gonna care for it :) if the vet will let me, im becoming a member of wildlife vic tonight, and i talked to a carer yesterday and she said that it should be okay for me to look after it until its shell is healed

If you get the wildlife carer to go to the vet with you, the appointment should be free (vets have to look after natives) and the vet wont be able to just say lets put it down because you are in charge of it. I know what you mean... I worked for a vet who just 'gave it a go' when it came to anesthetic for a beautiful owl with a suspected broken wing... and ended up killing it. There was a specialist 20mins away that could have taken it, a broken wing isnt an emergency :|

i dont have very much hope of the egg hatching, i had no idea to make an incubator, wasn't planning to have eggs anytime soon

The eggs will hatch a relatively low temp, you should be able to hatch them in a plastic bag with some damp substrate under your bed.

not that some there's been any bad avice but if you intend on caring for him yourself it might be worth joining up with australianfreshwaterturtles.com it's a forum simular to here but obviously turtle focused there are a few people on there that really know their turtley stuff and could be a great help in the rehab process for you

thanks funky! gosh, thankyou so much guys, i know shes not out of the woods, but she survived the night. and looks like shes been hit by a car before as she has a bit of shell missing elsewhere

no worries when I first got my turtles I was on there almost as much as here : p Craig especially knows his stuff he does alot of work releasing mary river turtles he has care sheets for diet etc on there I'm not sure what the go is as it's wild.
I'd say it will need to be dry docked for a while and bedadine is the best for the wound, they are pretty tough and I'm sure it will pull through with your care - keep us posted on how she's going : )
