I am currently dealing with Blister Disease in one of my snakes here. Although, the exude from the blisters is clear and watery, not white and pussy.

However, the treatment I am using, thanks to a member of this board putting me on the right track, is Chlorhexidine washing daily (then rinse), and Betadine antiseptic ointment on the spots, three times a day.

I took him to the vet yesterday where the Blister Disease was confirmed. As he only has two spots and they are healing nicely (the vet gave my advisor a verbal pat on the back), the vet opted not to start him on a course of antibiotics.

However, Blister Disease can become a real problem and if left untreated can become systemic, causing septacaemia and death.

which vet do you go to I go to Alan O'grady he's ment to be pretty good. these in my opinion arn't blister disease after hearing that. they are exactly like pimples, you squeeze them, puss comes out then they bleed a little bit like a pimple

My snakes blisters presented as small flat lumps, when I pressed and rubbed them, they exuded the clear watery fluid, then about 24 hours later, the tops sloughed off, leaving a little raw patch underneath.

I am in Brisbane, my vet is Bob Donnelly in Toowoomba.

no that doesn't really sound like mine. if you press or rub these nothing will happen, you have to fully squeeze them like a pimple. the snake doesn't have to shed to get rid of them once you sqeeze them there will be no sign of them after a day or two

How many does he have and roughly where? How old is your carpet, what are you feeding it on and is it wild caught?

Left field here, but there is a parasite (I know of the tapeworm, although there may be other types also) that resides under the surface of a snakes skin, creating a little bump. You can slit the top of the bump and squeeze the worm out, effectively removing it and solving the problem. (Although it really isn't neccessary as the parasite will die off anyway, but I digress)...

It could be feasible, that if you are just squeezing this 'pimple', you could be pulverising the worm inside, making the little white worm look like a white pussy puddle. However, these worms are usually the result of feeding on frogs or lizards and you don't often get a whole pile of them at once, just (usually) one or two over a fair period of time.

no, I don't think it is that, she gets fed rats. she would have maybe 20 or 30 and they are all over her body, they disappear for a few days when she sheds. the vet cut two open today to take a swob and they were not worms

I just did a google and turned up nothing at all.

Is it possibly an irritant in her environment? A rough branch or bark substrate or soap you use to wash her in or the cage out?

A perfume or deodorant you wear when handling her ?

I don't know but as I said she has had it for at lest 6mths and I was away for 2 and a half so I don't think my deodorant and my girlfriend deosn't handle them much. branches have been changed, I used paper as substrate which is different to the substrate I was using when she first got them. I don't use soaps on my enclosures, I use water and elbow grease

Cant add anything to what Wrasse has said so far. I am very keen to know what the problem is. Parasites is all I can suggest but if its puss then it would not be skin worms.

Duke, it doesnt have to be clear fluid to be considered blister disease. It can be thick puss and still be classed as a form of blister disease. Anyway, good luck.

I got the results back today from the test on rains pimples, it turns out they are caused from a bacterial infection. Results, had to clean out cage with bleech and rain is on baitral injections for 3 months.

3 months, thats a long time. How often does it need to be injected.
mmmm! They didn't suggest oral dosing?

yeah every two days for three months and she hates the injection.
Don't really have any more info, just an infection don't really know where she got it, it hasn't spread to the other snakes she comes in contact with. vet said she must have a lower imune system then the others.

That's a fairly heavy dose of baytrill injections. Must be bad.
