I use Guinea Pig and Rabbit mix from pet shops and mix with wheet bix...
It consists of chaff, sunflower seeds, barley seeds, oats, small pellets (maybe chicken), wheat and other grains...
I have had no problem with breeding rats or mice...
Their teeth haven't suffered..
Steer clear of the mixes with fruit loops in it though....
I have at times made my own up as I have access to a produce store and has consisted of the above grains etc..
