Hi,
I am in the process of making a rockwall and wondering if I meed a Styrofoam backing on the ply before I spray the expanda foam or will it hold to some screws drilled through the ply.

i use expander foam straight on melaminde no need for foam also i used a fan to make it expand more and you have to use the whole can in one go i put it down half way through went to answer phone and came back a but 15 mins and the can was gone

You don't have to use a full can at once. The foam hardens in the nozzle, not in the can, if you can, get spare nozzles or wash it out with solvent before it goes hard.

You'll get very good adhesion directly onto wood, but make sure you use exterior grade ply or if it gets wet along the bottom it will separate. Adhesion will be even more improved if you damp the wood surface before you apply the foam. The polyurethane foams are moisture cured.
