I dont know cause of death he was gone by 6 am and i had to go to work would have liked to take him in and find out but i just had mon and tues off so would have been pushing my luck a little with the boss. I am not sure on this but he is in the freezer atm can they still do a test to see what might have caused it ??
I didnt do anything different to what I always do and he was being kept in very close proximity to all my other snakes and they all seem to be fine but I will be keeping a very extreemly close eye on all of them sad thing was my partner saw him at the bottom of his inclosure 3 hrs prior to when I found him she thought he was just chilling out down there as soon as I approched the enclosure I knew something was not good, by that time all the vets had gone home for the day so sort of kicking myself I hadnt checked him out 3hrs earlier

We live and learn.:( Freezing it is perfect, get an autopsy, it may be nothing but what if...............

ok this may sound really bad but thank you fugawi because this is the first I have heard of anyone to mention ompv I just read about it and omg well i best get that snake looked at tomorrow his breathing seemed fine and nostrals looked good his mouth was not open so his decline was only in a matter of hours showed no symptoms of anything days prior ( the only thing I noticed was the day berroe when i had him in my hand he was not wrapping himself as tight as he usually does but he was still full of life so didnt take to much notice of it at the time) when i found him he was defently showing me unusual body postures they mentioed listleness is that like lifeless cause thats is exactly how i found him lifeless I thought he was dead when i found him but he would move his head a little bit. when i put him down he sort of rolled his head over and stayed like that on the occasion he would just decide to roll his he over lets say sort of like having a fit but not really convolsing

Sorry for your loss. I know how you feel. I just lost a childreni that I have had for years to similar type of symptoms

Sorry for your loss,ZenPython..
Also an addition/lesson for newbie/other herpers to not only learn to care for a reptile, but learn warning signs, symptoms and possible health issues.Vets within 100kms + emergency, would also be a good list for the fridge.

Sorry mate, from what I read you tried your damn hardest for the lil fella.

I know stargazing and unable to right themselves are signs of OPMV. You may want to check the other signs on this site, use the search function. It probably isn't but it is worth checking. I would always assume the worst.:)

OPMV cannot be confirmed in australia. there are a lot of diseases that cause the same neuro symptoms, and freezing the body is not good as the water crystalizes within the cells and causes alot of damage they need to be kept in the fridge for an effective post mortem and even then there is a chance nothing will be found, even with samples taken for histo. Although you can look for inclusion bodys within tissue cells which can be signs of a viral infection

Sorry to hear about your loss, i really would have thought that an after hours contact number to someone with extensive reptile medical knowledge would have been available somewhere in brisbane, i believe things need to change in that regard. With keeping reptiles becoming more popular as time goes on, this will need to be looked at as more people could be stuck in your situation, a situation that you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy.
Sorry again about your little guy, i'm feeling for you.

After loosing three keelbacks, I haven't read through the whole thread. But I can have a guess, and i'm pretty sure i'm spot on.

I lost three keelbacks in the space of half an hour each. Adults to.

Where did you get your fish, how long had you had it, did you use the water the fish came in to put in it's enclosure. I don't think it was the enclosure or your doing. I suspect the fish. After mine died, I went back to the pet shop, and they had just stopped using an anti fungal treatment.

My first suggestion is to always let you fish sit in a tank that you own for at least 2 weeks before feeding, I know that doesn't help you now... but it may in the future.

you need to remember that a true reptile emergency is very rare. and i dont mean my snake has been sick for 2 months and now its an emergency. so therefore there would not be enough generated income for an after hrs service ( and this doesnt include the fact that a lot of reptile keepers dont like to dish out the mular. especially in the city where companies like AES and Bvecs are referral centres for the majority of the clinics. the Best you can get is to get to know your vet personally so you can call them or be lucky enough that someone working at the emergency centre is knowledgable or knows someone who is. but remember 99% of the tiem your reptile has been sick for quite a while so it is up to you to notice when something is wrong and act on it

Sorry to hear about your loss. :(
Its pretty shattering to lose one, I unfortunately lost a gts myself not too long ago.

Sorry to hear about that man.
People who are reading this save this picture/info.
Hes a great vet and specialises in reptiles, birds and exotics, (as you can see) his closing times are 6:00pm but he is a really good bloke and I'm sure if It was an emergency he would be happy to help.

The vet I work for is mates with him and I have taken my reptiles to him which Is why I think he's a great fella. Also yeah, a post mordem would be the way to go.
Sorry for your loss again.
