My vivarium that I just purchased came with a thermostat and 2 x 40 watt blue globes for heating (approx 2ft long, 1.5 high/deep). I have been maintaining the vivarium at between 22-25C and was wondering the following:

1. Do I require additional heat flooring such as a heat rock or heat mat if the environment is at a controlled temperature?
2. Do I need to adjust the temperature in the day vs. night set up.
3. Is this the right wattage?

It is currently housing a 5 month old central carpet python.

hmmm, i would probably up the heat a little.
to about 28-29-30 degrees at the warm end and a cool area of about 22-24 degrees.

The snake needs access to temps of around 30 degrees, as well as a cool spot of around 25 degrees. What is the temperature at the warmest part of the enclosre (i.e. directly under the lights)?

The temp can remain the same day and night.

Currently sitting at 25-26 under the lights. Looks like I might need to turn it up as I'm due to feed him for the first time tomorrow.

Apparently heat rocks aren't a good idea as they can burn your animal.

nope, just bump up the thermostat until you get that 29-30 directally under the light, no heat matt or heat rock required
