Is it from Kaiam?

ROFLMAO ... now that is funny ... good one mate ;-)

Brodie .. you nailed it both ways mate ... Acanthophis laevis from near Kaiam-Kikori in the lowland swamps of Gulf province, PNG. The parents were both red with black bars while the 7 juveniles are all grey ...

And no I didn't microwave the poor buggers ...

Dave, do you think they may develope the red colouration with time. I know my Barkly's change alot as they mature

yeah mate I think they do. They little fellas do have faint tinges of red when they are in the sun ... I'll know in 6-12 months I guess ...

Is The lure tip of tail a diff color in the juveniles? love to see a beter pic if poss. Intresting snake. :D

Thanks to the crew from VHS who made me welcome last Friday - great meet folks and I hope to get to another one next year to show you some PNG herps in all their glory...

Here's a quick update on the Kaiam adders ... red parents -> grey juvies ... scroll up to twig your memories ...

Well it's a few month's down the line and here are the latest pics ...

Yep ... so there you have it ... eight months old and definately changing colour from grey to red ...

I'll post more pics on their birthday ... around March next year.

Here's another adder you might like ...

acanthophis_sp.jpg

Specimen of Acanthophis sp from a *for now* undisclosed location which may soon have a name all of its own - once the labwork and fieldwork are finished.

Cheers

And yes, these snakes appear to be another form of dark-headed death adder ...
