My friend is camping around the Murray River in S.A.

He said he has seen lots of lizards... they are dark green and blackish and have a gold strip down each side, he also said that they are like droptail skinks but bigger and thicker.

He said they are always around water and tree roots.

I wouldn't think it would be a skink by his description, does anyone know?

all skinks can drop their tails if need be. I'm assuming some ctenotus sp

Even blueys? I didn't know they could all do it... lol.

Yeah, that is just what most people around here call them, as a common name, they are just a small thin skink up to about 10cm i think. We have them everywhere here, there are thousands.

They would be Eastern Water Skinks..... Eulamprus quoyii........ they are EVERYWHERE up there!

EDIT: Pike beat me too it!
