hey guys im new to this forum and i was wondering if you can put 1 coastal carpet python and 1 jungle carpet python in the same tank
just some info thats might help
tank size - 910mm long -445mm high -445mm deep
size of snakes - coastal 500mm - jungle 450mm <-- only baby's

also if they can live together could i need 2 heat rocks and water dishes or will they share

if you could help thats would be awesome :)

I would not recommend that you keep any two snakes together as there is a risk of one eating the other, which is not common in jungles or coastals, but could happen. Also when you feed them the risk of one eating the other is much higher as if they both grab the same food item the quicker eater may keep swallowing until the other has disappeared if you know what I mean. Two plastic containers for snakes this small are not expensive and one heat mat or cord could heat them both.

just dont do it, there are heaps of threads on here asking the same question have a search.

I had a MD that shared an enclosure with a coastal for a couple of months, and they seemed to adore each other, they'd cuddle and were never aggresive. They had two hides but wherever one was the other one joined them, so only one was ever being used, they shared a waterbowl no dramas too. I have a suspicion that the coastal was neurologically damaged though, and not long after I moved my MD to another enclosure the coastal got really snappy, I think I was lucky to get her out when I did!

Personally I'd never put two snakes in together again, it's just risking too much.

Is it ok for them to have a bath together and watch the traffic go by together? lol Have 3 waters that are always together and not one fight with the males over the female in 16 yrs

you mentioned heat rocks, dont do that either, they can cause burns to their underbelly, a heat cord under the tubs are a better idea

oo so heat rock bad
but i cant realy put a heat coard under my cage because its made of wood and theres a 1-2inch layer of sand
so is there another way i can get them there heat

the first thing i would do is take the sand out , have a look/search on the forum to find out why .
what other heatingis inthere apart from the heat rock ?

thats it is there meant to be more than one heating thing ?
id take the heat rock out as others have said , and put a ceramic heat emitter with a cage around it [ so the snake cant get burnt] with a thermostat to control the basking/hot area temp.

I have a 2 watt heat mat under my tub for my 6 month old diamond but for all my adult snakes in proper wood enclosure i put there heat mats under there substrate in there enclosure.
But for the little snakes that ar still in tubs i would have the heat source under the tub not in hope i could help
Cheers
Caleb.

i think pepsi111 `s using a enclosure [ going by the size`s he said in his first post ]

Lets go for the wind up....
Can be problematic as others have said but essentially there is nothiing wrong with keeping the two together. Yeh you should separate them for feeding and they should both be female.
Two males will fight when older, don't know if anyone has an exception to this rule.
If one is male and other female they could breed which is illegal unless you live in NSW.
I have seen a jungle and MD that were together for first 2 years of their lives.
I have kept two of the same snakes together without issue except my darwins. Once the males heating died and I tried to put him in with the female but she was not happy with this arrangement. She started striking as soon as he was introduced and she is not cage defensive. They are only juvies at the moment, hope she gets over the boy germ syndrome before she is an adult lol.
Generally I only have one heat source which is a heat lamp, although all my enclosures are a bit different. I have heard that heat rocks can burn especially if unregulated.
Take care.:D

head to the thread above, it sounds like you need a bit of help :)

Lights, ceramic heaters and cords are all options for heating but it means you will need to drill a hole to feed the wires through, and put a cage around it so your snake doesn't get burnt.

dont bother trying to grow grass in the enclosure it wont work, fake grass is an option as well as newspaper, kitty litter, coir, marine carpet, lots of options, be careful when you feed that none of the substrate (flooring) doesn't get stuck to the food.

seriously think about a thermostat to help control the temperature in there, as well as a thermometer to monitor the temps over the coming seasons,

yea thats true its 16mm white melamine and looks good but i dont actually have the snake in it at the moment because i just found him yesterday because my mum didn't put the lid on properly but i just have to get the glass for it
but the reason im saying its in there is because i would like to get the other enclosure ready so he can go right in there.
=]
so any ways a ceramic heat emitter with a cage around it would that be perfect for the little guy
and for lighting what would be the best?
i was just going to take him out and give him some good old sun light

just use newspaper as your flooring and change it every week, so much easier to keep clean and sterile.

Does the enclosure get much natural light thru windows/skylights ? if it does then maybe just use a blue or red globe so you can watch yr snake at night.

sunlight is good for a healthy dose of UV but your snake will still need a day/night cycle so if he is in a a well lit room - keep him out of direct sunlight- it will need a light source of some kind, which then means you could run a single globe that provides heat & Light, or two sockets, one for a ceramic heater and one for a small wattage light globe, or a heat mat/ cord and a light globe.

look at a good quality thermostat the dimming/pulse proportional ones are prefered by a lot of keepers(they won't be cheap)
