014.jpg249.jpg250.jpg248.jpgInterested to see what people think, as sold as Athertons, but breeder had made a few mistakes and sold some Palmys as Athertons. 15mnths/female, photos only a few weeks old

Sorry, just to put it out there... It's a coastal!!!

Topographically very difficult to decipher Atherton from Palmerston... So why would snakes differ so much???

How important is it to you that they're Athertons?

Call me a fuddy duddy if you want, but honestly, it looks 100% identical to a coastal carpet I picked up from Mackay about 4 years ago...

Hi just tried to answer and my puter crashed so I will try and answer again (hope I havent posted twice without knowing it)

There is so much controversy over the notion of locality that I am thinking I will start a thread about it.

Anyway Im probably not telling you anything you dont already know.....palmerstons tend to be smaller than athertons and palmerstons tend to be brighter...having said that I have a lovely atherton here with beautiful bright yellow as bright as a palmerston.

Something I would say though...and i dont know if others agree with me...there is something about the head shape on your snake that doesnt look jungle.......it looks more coastal carpet than jungle carpet....did the breeder let you see the parents?

I'm pretty impressed you can make that conclusion about head shape. I'd be interested to see side by side pictures to see this difference

Am 200% sure the parents are jungles!!! I have no idea how anyone would think coastal with the pics I have provided, I know I am crap at photos, but please......247.jpg008.jpgare you going to say pic two is a coastal? 159.jpgpic three is a coastal, huge difference, or am I missing something?

opps meant to say Pic two is a Palmy male 12 months

id almost call that an atherton but something points me towards coastal for some reason

To be fair I guess some localitys of carpets such as SW & west coast could look very similar to jungles, I know mine is a jungle I just was interested in what people thought of locality as the answer is either Athertons or Palmerston, there was no other answer.................

lol Slim are you just trying to be contrary? They look nothing alike...
Phantom I think it would be really difficult to tell locality. As people have said there is too much overlap and too much subtle difference. Size and brightness are a generally how you tell but they aren't definitive. You kinda have to take the breeder's word for it I think

TRUE, TRUE, at last the one answer that is correct, I was just interested in what people thought, but will go with the breeders word of an Athertons (breeder is very experienced, just had a couple of hatchies mixed up - we all make mistakes), The pic I called a Palmy male is also correct237.jpg. The pic of the coastal is correct too - he def is a qld male coastal, this added pic is a GTP python, but I am sure people have other opinions on this.................

If you're confident the breeder made a mistake then how do you know?

I honestly think they are all carpet pythons, captive bred descendants from other carpet pythons from somewhere in Queensland.
Then again, I could be wrong, do I see bit of a diamond in it? Ah, diamonds are carpets anyway. Aren't they something .... Morelia spilota ???
