i have a snake hid but my snake never comes out of it dose it need one

Yes. It's always in because it feels secure in there. If you give it no where to hide, it could become stressed which isn't good.

Hiding is what snakes do.

I'd say yes!

I left a hide out of my very placid female woma's enclosure and she became very defensive.
I think it does bad things for their temperament when they feel constantly exposed.

if they use the hides then give them one,...most of mine didnt use theirs so they got pinched fro other newer critters,.... :p

towels make great hides, heres Loki enjoying his. :)

Definitely yes!

It seldom ventures out because it feels safe and secure in it's little cave ;)

Also keep in mind they do love to hide after a feed, when due for a shed and whenever they feel vulnerable or if the enclosure is quite bare and set in a busy environment.

My advice would be to leave the hide as is, give the snake some time to itself to settle (no handling all the time) and maybe a dark cloth placed over the enclosure/tub. The snake being settled and feeling secure is what is important here, and hopefully following the above will in turn lead to the snake venturing out of it's hide a lot more.

Cheers,
Thals.

A lot of snakes will spend most of the day hiding and come out to explore at night. My large male coastal spends most of his time sleeping out in the open, but his hide is there if he wants it. If the snake becomes too stressed from not having anywhere to hide it may go off its food.

l to say yes they do need somewhere to hide, so they can have some time to themself without being watched all the time, by giving them a hide will stop them from stressing out.

All snakes need hides except GTPs and tree dweling ones somewhere they can feel safe and secure they also need a dark place because they cant close there eyes

None of mine have hides, but my substrate is newspaper or paper towel so they just hide under or between the sheets. It all depends on what type of setup you have, all my snakes are in rack setups.

my big jungle has a hide, but the only time she goes into it is when shes digesting or its really cold. the rest of the time shes up on her basking shelf.

Pythons such as Diamond & Carpet which a tree dwellers should be provided with a hide box built above at one end of their enclosure, with a tree branch leading upto it just like you see in this photo. so they can live above ground just like they do out in the wild.

The hide box above will give them a dark and secure area to hide, make sure the hide box is big enough for them to stretch out, so they can curl up in a circle not just long ways.

I think it's very important to allow your snake to hide.
Even in my racks I have hides. Even though they are not 'on view' in their racks, they still use the hides, so they obviously feel much more secure in there, and to a snake, feeling secure is everything.
In my racks I just use up-turned ice-cream tubs with a hole in the top.

That looks like a very functional and comfortable enclosure, r1933.
