they are the same as any other terrestrial python and smell the same.yes they are a bit cranky as hatchlings, but thats natural... who would want some big bugger grabbing you?

They are a pleasure to keep and breed, a very underated specie in my opinion.

They have a different odour to other pythons and I've also found them to be a bit messier, ie. they will happily crap in their hides.
what snake won't crap in it's hide? please fill me in . have you got some sort of super snake that obey's rules and will go to the dunny in a designated spot?

yes I do in fact. my spotteds hide is on the third story of the tank and without fail she will travel down to the bottom and poo in the same corner of the tank then retreats back to her hide...
but my jungle, poos then sits in it and waits for me to clean her up..

i love that first pic....i like the lighter water pythons....

They change from light to dark fairly often, sometimes mine have been lighter than that first photo of Matt's other times they're similar to the next photo.

That's actually the same snake :)

SERIOUS!!!....man i would never have thought that was the same snake....i used to have a female water python but she never changed her colour darkness....im planning to get a pair of waters early next year ....awesome snakes

That is fantastic!!!!!!! great snake........... Any advice in enclosure dimentions. I am thinking more ground space than height.

Of course there is good and bad in individuals. We have a male, very, very placid Qld form. He is very active at present but he is looking for some action. We believe his age to be 7-8 years old and is 7ft 5in or 226cm. I will try and find a picture that shows his size. Have heaps but not showing size in relation to something else. We also have a hatchy who is about 2-3ft and can be a little snappy.

Definitely an underrated species

Cheers

Ive kept my adults in 4x2x2 enclosures, keep them just the same as any other python (that isn't a specialist species).

I'm also chasing a NT male if anyone has one? :)

Vast majority of waters like to swim so 4x2x2 seems a bit small for adults

Can have a much muskier odour than other reps
[ similar to slatey greys]

Strong snake that will colour change beautifully if taken into direct sunlight regularly

One of my favorite snakes, we use them for most of our events and find if they are treated well from a young age they are fantastic handling snakes. Great snakes

I've never had waters that smell any different to other pythons and when offered large areas to swim in they never utulized it, now there is just a large water bowl and I've still never seen a water venture into it.
