Do snakes jump off you?

It's a jungle, not a Paradise Snake, it jumped because it didn't like being with you at that time. Carpet pythons of any variety don't 'jump' anywhere in their enclosures - they vacate an area where they're not happy... ie., being touched by you in this instance.

Sudden movements like that are generally a startle response. A hiss is often the same. Sometimes mine make a hissing noise that seems to be like a grunt of effort when they are trying to achieve a difficult position or get into a tight spot. Let's face it - they are not highly vocal creatures and have a pretty limited repertoire. My snakes which are accustomed to handling act the same in and out of their enclosures, moving smoothly and deliberately.
 
I've had my Children's do a funny wiggle, but only when i not holding his tail enough... i guess he felt like he was falling and doing the "im going to fall ahhh" wiggle
