How many people keep reptiles off license?

It would depend on the state for an answer to how many are legally kept without licence.


I am in victoria and I have previously had 6 or so reptiles off licence legally (Being blue tongues and gecko's obtained legally) before and while I have my license.

I know 4 or 5 friends who also have reptiles legally off licence.

SA has three lists of animals, exempt, basic and specialist. You don't need a permit for exempt animals or to keep one animal off the basic list. However you can't sell a basic list animal without a permit, so unless it is illegal sales the fauna unit has all the numbers.

you could always do an poll, but most people here i assume have a licence, well everyone i have bought reptiles off on here has had a licence. but if you go on gumtree 80% of people don't same as a few other sites. today i spoke to someone about 2 reptiles they were selling and they had no licence and did not know if the dragons they were selling were eatern or central (on gumtree). you'd need to do polls on multiple sites to get a correct percentage.

I have to admit.... I have 2 veloca-raptors and a T-rex not on my licence...... I snuck up on the nests while the mother was off somewhere and pinched the eggs.... so I have had them since hatchies :lol:

I would still like to know what your 'market research' is in aid of? Are you looking to open a shop to sell reptiles to people who dont have a license? You do know that would be against the law?

I work in a reptile shop and we get heaps of people that are very open about the fact they have illegal animals. I am also a member of a few facebook pages and was looking at a fellow members pics the other day and they have some kind of boa, why on earth would you publicly post photos of exotics. I own 4 off licence reptiles, a marbled gecko and 3 bluetongues, all obtained legally.
