ya could mention how snakes including australian copperheads are seen active above the snowline of mountains, including Mt kosiosko...this might help em understand that snakes can still be active in cold conditions.

Um, scaley, long , no legs, bitey end and a pooing end ! Can someone write that all scientific and correct please? :p
er, yeah, 'Snake'. :D

I believe the death adder has the fastest strike speed.

The coastal taipan is Australias largest venomous snake.

The inland taipan is the wordls most venomous snake.

The eastern brown snake is responsible for most snake bite deaths in australia.

Garter snakes can actually "freeze" overnight in snow and then thaw out again the next morning as temps rise and carry on their days work.

Maybe you could save this pic and print out a few copies to show how large a meal a python can swallow, much more than 3 times their head without a doubt :)

Most venemous land snake actually isnt it???

And most importantly, you have to stress to the kiddies, and especially their shovel happy parents, that snakes are not, i repeat are NOT, slimey!!!!!!

It's the most venomous snake full stop Alan.

Some sea snakes are more venomous. The genus Aipysurus springs to mind, but I'm sure Toxinologist can give us more examples.

I think thats fine, I have dune heaps of talks for schools and public displays and it doesnt pay to be to technical or you will just loose their interest

I think it is very true that when dealing with little kids you have to keep it simple. But you still should aim to know your subject thoroughly even it can be technical aleast then you can step up the anti if required. I always found that when the class was over the school teachers often liked to asked questions alot more indepth.I don't know if any one here has seen Brian Bushs talks over here, but I must say that with little kids he is absolutely fantastic. He just about turns into a kid himself and they respond well. One thing I always had a little trouble with was having to many classes together and keeping them under control. You bring a carpet snake out and let a kid hold it and suddenly 50 kids are excited and trying to do the same. Looking back on doing it I must say I really did enjoy changing atitudes and educating youngsters.

Its a rewarding and Fun experience, kids are great, so open and honest and curious. Give some basic idea how it lives and let them ask the questions works best. :D

Did I stuff up ops!
I mean you told me moosenoose that wrasse look like a brickies labourer so I just assumed wrasse was a bloke. And of course there is the fact that wrasse knew and wrote something intelligent which again made me think that it had to be a bloke. And also at the time the post was submitted a woman would normally be doing chores in the kitchen so how can I be blamed for thinking otherwise.
