Is a rainbow python kinda like a water python but sounds better? Man i'd love a rainbow python, they sound heaps better than water pythons and are probably magical, they sound heaps better than bredli pythons which Sdaji said are boring and stupid, maybe if i call my bredli pythons ''heart of Australia deep indian red pythons'' they will become exciting and intelligent.
Heh
Touchy
As you'd expect, I get a lot of people asking me about Water/Rainbow Pythons. One of the most common questions I am asked is "Do they live in water like fish?". The name is clearly very misleading. Most people keep their "Water" Pythons like you'd keep Carpet Pythons and they are perfectly happy, they breed, they're healthy, etc etc. A lot of people who have ended up buying hatchling "Water" Pythons from me tell me they're sad it took them so long to get them and the only reason they didn't earlier was because they were confused, thinking they needed specialised care. Over the last few years, more and more people have been calling them Rainbow Pythons, which I think I can confidently say is not at all inappropriate and is less misleading. The aboriginals were calling them Rainbow Serpents since before white people turned up and in some areas, they still do. There are aboriginal stories about "Water" Pythons being the babies of the big giant rainbow serpent dreamtime creature thing, they are often considered sacred and there are some interesting stories about why the aboriginal people consider it okay to eat these "babies". In one story an aboriginal told me, the Rainbow Serpent (the giant mythical one) had the babies as a gift to the people, so they could have something to eat!
As for Carpets (including bredli), yes, I find them boring and don't like them. As I've said over and over, it's just a personal preference thing, there's nothing wrong with them at all. I have Carpets too, including bredli. I've sold more Carpets than Rainbow Pythons and for more money, so I'm not trying to hype them up because of any unseen bias, I say I love them because I do, I say they're pretty because they are, I say they are (by python standards) full of character and very inquisitive when compared to a carpet, because they are. Don't worry, Carpets will no doubt continue to be more popular than Rainbows, a small number of us will wonder why, but as long as I can enjoy mine, and anyone else wanting to can do the same, I'm not fussed. Have you noticed how many people complain about Water Pythons? After Children's Pythons, Water Pythons probably have the highest number of people talking about how "crap" they are, you see and hear it all the time, that's fine too
People can say whatever they like about which snakes they like or dislike, we should all be free to express our preferences about snakes. Of course, there is nothing wrong with snakes lacking in personality. Children's Pythons aren't exactly the most excitingly natured snakes and they aren't all that clever, but they are among my favourites; there's just something about Children's Pythons which appeals to me and something about the attitude of Carpets which I just don't like, Carpets are just lacking in appeal to me. Each to their own
Here's a picture of the snake in my collection I like least. I would go as far as saying I absolutely hate this snake. I still think she is good looking, but her personality is repugnant. Incidentally, I have plans to build her a new, large and very lovely enclosure later this year. I think she has just about outgrown her old one. I'm not sure if I'll breed my bredli this year as I'm moving and the disturbance might disagree with their cycles, but hopefully I'll have a couple of clutches of bredli the following season, good thing they're popular as it should help them to sell quickly and get their ugly little faces away from me!
