Hi everyone,

Could someone please suggest some info about upgrading from recreational to specialist licence?

I've currently reached the maximum of 2 restricted reptiles kept on a recreational licence with a pair of Tanami Womas. I would like to breed them next year but I am unsure of the legal requirements to do so. I've heard you can write a letter explaining that you want to upgrade but not keep elapids is this right?
Also is there a minimal period you must have you rec licence for before upgrading?

Would appreciate some info thanks everyone. ;)

I believe you do need to have you rec permit for 5years (i may be wrong so dont quote me) and according to the schedule of fee's provided to me by the epa the licence fee jumps from $65.85 per 5 years to $247.65 per 5 years

OK cool thanks for that alexbonner very helpfull and simple it comes to a total cost of $247.65
I might have a look at the international licence price while I'm here too

Another quick question

Do you need any referances from other specialist keepers to obtain these licences, specialist & international?

Can anyone else shed some light on the minimum period you must have your recreatioinal licence before upgrading?

Thanks agin ppl's

No I ... I got the international license option for gtps and i didn't need any references... I applied and got the liscence upgrade after about 3 days waiting ...

I upgraded to a specialist licence without any references, I simply wrote a letter explaining that I was wanting to keep restricted pythons but not elapids, and it was approved. I don't think there's a minimum time period you have to have your licence for in QLD. I'd had my licence for less than 2yrs when I applied to upgrade.

this is the website that you will need to go to to find the info you need on what animals you can cannot keep on a normal rec lic.
If you want to keep more than 2 womas, etc you have to upgrade your lic.

We reasearched this a couple of months ago, because I have golden tails and they are on the restricted list as well

Go to - Schedule 5, Part 1, Page 60 ( animals that are near threatened wildlife )
