RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Reptile License

True Glacey...I forgot to mention that...I believe that was more of a 'sting' than random inspections...at least according to my sources :)

I'd be interested to see who owns a RBB here, as they aren't on the regular keepable list. Maybe I"m missing something.

Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Reptile License

Yeah may not be a cat 5 though - I think from memory that there are various other licences such as Reg16??? that allow for keeping other animals.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Reptile License

I think that they would be specialist licenses...I've not heard of that license- but I'm just your average keeper.... :)

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Reptile License

Reg 16 licences are the old reptile keeper's licence under which people kept animals before the new system came in in 2003 in WA, and there are still some animals held under 16s where they are not on the keeping species list - for example when I was resident in WA, everything I had before 2003 was held on a Reg 16, but after 2003 I transferred my carpets etc to the keeping system, but my water pythons and diamonds remained on Reg16, and would still be now if I lived in WA at this time.

Animals held for research or educational purposes are still relegated to Reg 16 licences, it allows more flexibility with regard to activities you can undertake (such as school talks etc) with your animals, and also is not so restrictive about the species you can hold. CALM is very keen for those that can to change their licences to the keeper system, because for most people Reg 16s are FREE, and they are making a killing with the fees associated with the keeping system - when I got my cat 5 licence to keep some olives, CALM charged me $150 to come out and check 2 cages, to ensure I had 6mm glass and locks (not to mention the huge annual cost of a cat 5 - costs me less for 5 years in NSW than it does for 1 year in WA!... I'm an economic refugee in NSW now lol 8) !

Jamie.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Reptile License

Its pretty mad out here. I'll say that much.

I want a dealers licence- but I gotta find out all the ins and outs of it before I can go any further. Guess a call to CALM is in order.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Reptile License

lol thats a crack up
some people take " the customers always right " policy a little too far

New Chapter
My strange customer returned today to get prices on some of my reptile products. He still insists that he has to produce dockets to NPWS to prove that he has appropriate equipment to hold reptile before they will issue him with a licence. Perhaps it brought it on himself for stating that its cheaper to get a snake out of the bush than to pay $200 for one. He couldn't stop shaking his head at the ridicule of paying for something you can get for nothing from the bush. But now NPWS are going to monitor him to make sure he does the right thing. Good! I don't think he should be allowed to have a license. He was asking me new question and asking another before I finished answering his last one. Ah well. No skin off my nose. If I happen to get his name next time he comes in, I'll keep it on record, just so I can caution sellers if it ever comes up.
